A privilege to represent National Grid at No. 10 Downing Street Summer Business Reception, where I had the pleasure of speaking with business leaders and senior members of the new Labour Government. While discussions were broad, I was able to talk about the critical nature of the energy sector, and networks in particular, alongside industry leaders Tom Glover, Alistair Phillips-Davies and Emma Pinchbeck to name but a few. In an era where the urgency of climate action is paramount, partnership and collaboration between Government and industry is not just beneficial - it is essential. Great speeches from Rt Hon Rachel Reeves and Keir Starmer to emphasise their focus here. By aligning our focus, policy and innovation, we can create a sustainable pathway that not only addresses environmental concerns but also safeguards the interests of consumers and creates new growth opportunities. National Grid Electricity Distribution accepts the UKs net zero mission and is excited about the role we will play to drive technological advancements, enhance grid resilience, and deliver local decarbonisation for our customers and communities. Together, we will power a greener, fairer future. #NetZero #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #Collaboration #Innovation #Climate

👐 We have partnered with Warm Welcome Campaign to boost access to community spaces. 🤝 The partnership, is part of their ‘Warm Welcome for All’ pledge – a commitment towards the vision of everyone in the UK having free access to warm, welcoming community spaces. 🗯 Yesterday, we hosted a round-table at National Grid’s HQ with Warm Welcome, chaired by former Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Gordon Brown, to discuss the role that businesses can play in supporting community spaces that tackle fuel poverty and create a more connected society. 👫 Established in 2022, Warm Welcome has developed a thriving UK network of 4,000 community spaces of all kinds – faith groups, libraries, community centres, sports clubs, theatres, cafes and many more. ✅ Warm Welcome has been a key recipient of National Grid's Community Matters Fund. Over 400 Warm Spaces received £2.7m funding from the Community Matters Fund last year. ✅ Since its launch in 2021, the Community Matters Fund has awarded £10.5 million to local groups, charities and not for profits across the Midlands, South West and South Wales.

🚗🔋 Reflections on a pathway to transport decarbonisation 🔋🚗 This evening, I had the privilege of joining John Gummer, Rt Hon The Lord Deben and industry leaders for a round table dinner focused on transport decarbonisation facilitated by Claire Haigh and Philip Sellwood CBE at Zemo Partnership. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to creating a sustainable future in our collective role on the Council for Net Zero Transport following its launch on 6th June. It was inspiring to witness the collective expertise and passion in the room. The discussions reinforced the critical role of electricity networks in achieving our decarbonisation goals and further my commitment that National Grid Electricity Distribution will work in partnership with all parties to deliver the infrastructure needed to drive decarbonisation forward. The exchange of ideas and perspectives left me optimistic about the innovative solutions and collaborative efforts underway. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an important conversation and to connect with individuals so dedicated to making a difference. Together, we really are driving towards a cleaner, greener future. #Innovation is at the heart of the activities we are doing with #NetZero in mind. 💡 Our innovation team are constantly looking at new ways to improve our processes, efficiencies and to minimise waste or carbon emissions wherever possible. For example, our team right now are looking at... ⛏️ Active Creosote Extraction. This project has developed an innovative method to extract creosote (a wood preserver - aimed at preventing fungal growth, however it is classified as a carcinogen) from our wooden poles so they no longer require incineration. This means our wooden poles can be used again for another purpose. ♻️ ♨️ Project EQUINOX. This project is looking at the flexibility of heat pumps, to see the impact of spreading energy-usage across the day (rather than using electricity during peak hours). 👫 Last winter, over 1000 heat pump owners took part in the unique trial, turning off their heat pumps in the evening, in exchange for savings on their bills over the trial period. ☕ In our first trial, we saw a total measurable household turndown of 10.8 MWh - the energy needed to make more than 300,000 cups of tea. ⚡ Such projects show what's possible when we look at different ways in which to manage our electricity network, and how much energy can be saved - helping to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions. #NetZeroWeek
