Head of Revenue Development Program, Newspack at Automattic

Just in time before the seasons start to change, I’m eager to welcome the 4th cohort of the Newspack Revenue Development Program! This group starting today, brings the total number of participants to 36. That’s 36 times the energy and effort being poured into growing their audiences 📈, turning readers into loyal supporters 🤝 and boosting sponsorship revenue 💰. Meet the cohort: - Alamosa Citizen - Boulder Reporting Lab - Capital B Atlanta - India Currents - Injustice Watch - Mississippi Free Press - Montclair Local Nonprofit News - The Daily Yonder - The San Fernando Valley Sun / El Sol newspaper - What'sUpNewp It wouldn’t be possible at this scale without the help of Blue Engine Collaborative coaches (Chris Peña, Dustin Block, Katie Mercer). I'm grateful to have them as part of our extended team, offering top-notch 1:1 guidance on newsletter strategies and implementation. 💙 🚀 I’m also looking forward to launching the Reader Revenue Track soon—just in time as election season ramps up public interest. In collaboration with Blue Engine and Scott Klein (Entrepreneur in Residence at Newspack and co-creator of the Knight Election Hub), we’re designing programming to help publishers capture this heightened attention, expand their audience, and maximize revenue. This track will be invaluable not only for the election season but for any major events in the future. If this sounds like a fit for you, follow the application link in the comments!

Uganda is celebrating some incredible performances in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games by their Track and Field athletes. Joshua Cheptegei set an Olympic Record for his gold medal run during the men's 10,000 meter race. And Peruth Chemutai won silver in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase. Kawowo Sports is East Africa's largest sports website based in Uganda that publishes digital sports content with a focus on local and regional information. Founder Joseph Owino and his team are focused more on visual content for Olympic coverage this year. Despite facing financial and accredidation challenges getting staff members to the live events, they were able to get funding to send staff members to Paris and obtain access to the Olympic Village. With this access they've created behind-the-scenes content and sat down with Ugandan athletes to write stories about their experience. When it comes to the Olympics, India Currents is looking for stories that appeal to the Indian-American diaspora. Located in the Bay Area of California, the publication is an award-winning, nonprofit, nonpartisan, ethnic media organization focused on the Indian-American community. Publisher Vandana Kumar and her team at India Currents don't have the resources to do detailed reporting on the Olympics, so they decided to take a different approach. Their Editor Meera Kymal recently went to Paris and was reminded of the time in the '90s when her family moved to Paris on the eve of another momentous occasion, the millennium. She recounted that time compared to the state of Paris ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games. Read her story: https://lnkd.in/gMn8emjC #ParisOlympics #Olympics

Located right next to Salt Lake City, Utah, Park City is home to Utah Olympic Park, which was a key venue during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. The area just won their bid to host a second Winter Olympics, in 2034. Park City is a favorite ski resort destination for winter-sports enthusiasts across the globe. In an interview with Conde Nast Traveler, Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White called it his second home since he's trained regularly in the mountains of Park City since the early 2000s. There's also several Olympians from Park City and the surrounding areas like two-time Olympic gold medalist skier, Ted Ligety and mountain biker Haley Batten who just won silver at the Games in Paris — giving the U.S. its best finish in an Olympic mountain bike race. So, it's not surprising that Park City locals have a healthy dose of enthusiasm around the Olympics. The Park Record Newspaper has been serving the area since 1880. This year, Staff Photographer David Jackson was on the ground during the IOC announcement. He was able to capture the enthusiasm as you can see in the photo attached. There's so much more to come. Owner of The Park Record, Tatiana Prince said, "We're gearing up for 10 years of a very active Olympic beat." Keep up with The Park Record's Olympic coverage here: https://lnkd.in/gvsp6_-4. #ParisOlympics #journalism #Olympics

⚽ For Soccer America’s Editor-in-Chief, Paul Kennedy and his team, soccer is life. ⚽ As a soccer publication based in the U.S., covering Team USA Soccer at this year’s Games in Paris is a highlight of their year particularly because both the U.S. Men’s and Women’s teams are competing. The men’s team is back after a 16-year hiatus from the Olympics and the women’s team has another chance to claim gold after winning bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. One of Soccer America’s correspondents got stuck in Paris after the arson attacks on the French train system, which forced him to cover a game from the TV monitor. But, he eventually got to Marseille! And now they have one U.S. and one German correspondent covering the games from France. In an effort to organize their Olympic coverage and drive engagement, they’re leveraging the SA Daily — their daily e-newsletter. Congrats to the Soccer America team for this Olympic coverage! Check out some of Soccer America’s coverage of soccer at the Games by correspondent Ian Plenderleithhttps://lnkd.in/gkXjUsW8 #olympics #ParisOlympics #journalism
