➡️ New NVIDIA #DRIVELabs video highlights a collaboration between #NVIDIAResearch and Stanford University which won the #RSS2024 Outstanding Paper Award. Foundation models, e.g., large language models (#LLMs), trained on internet-scale data possess zero-shot generalization capabilities that make them a promising technology towards detecting and mitigating out-of-distribution failure modes of robotic systems. In this work, we present a two-stage reasoning framework: 1) A fast binary anomaly classifier analyzes observations in an LLM embedding space, which may then trigger a slower fallback selection stage. 2) The fall back selection stage utilizes the reasoning capabilities of generative LLMs. We show that our fast anomaly classifier outperforms autoregressive reasoning with state-of-the-art GPT models, even when instantiated with relatively small language models. This enables our runtime monitor to improve the trustworthiness of dynamic robotic systems, such as #autonomousvehicles, under resource and time constraints.

Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang, in his keynote presentation with NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang, unveiled the Lenovo 2000 TOPS Autonomous Driving Domain Controller AD1 at Lenovo Tech World 2024. "The car is the world's highest volume robot. It perceives the world, reasons about what to do, and takes action on the steering wheel," said Huang. "This is going to be the first generation of the highest volume robot in the word. In the future, we're going to have robotic systems of all different kinds, and this particular computer could be used for all of that." At the NVIDIA #AIsummit in Washington, D.C., industry experts Danny Shapiro, Mark R. Rosekind, Ph.D., and Marco Pavone offered insight into the current state of #automotive #safety. ➡️ Marco spoke about the emergence of new tools that allow researchers and developers to rethink how #autonomousvehicle development is carried out, as a result of new tech related to #generativeAI and #neuralrendering, among others. ➡️ Mark commented on the patchwork of regulations that exists across the U.S., explaining that federal agencies focus on the vehicle, while states focus on the operator, including driver education, insurance, and licensing. ➡️ The experts also discussed this week's announcement by MITRE: a new partnership with Mcity to develop an AV validation platform for industry deployment.
