The effects of climate change reinforce the disparities already evident in the housing sector. Affordable housing projects often reduce costs by developing lower-cost plots in less desirable, higher-risk areas prone to flooding, earthquakes, or other environmental hazards. Without intervention, we risk promoting climate change gentrification, where the value of safer land will continue to increase and price vulnerable households out. 🌍🌡️ New research in Nature shows that droughts could last on average 10 days longer by the end of the 21st century than previously predicted , posing even greater threats to ecosystems and societies. This adds urgency to anticipatory action in regions like Africa, where drought risks are rising. By improving climate model accuracy, we can better prepare for and reduce the impacts of prolonged dry spells. The islands of Macaronesia 🏝 are becoming increasingly vulnerable to extreme coastal flooding caused by powerful Atlantic storms 🌊 . A European Commission project introduced an early warning system 📣 in the Canary Islands. The system alerts residents 🔊 up to 72 hours before severe weather events. The project has also implemented innovative flood-prevention measures, including "anti-impact" benches along the shore, which act as barriers against incoming waves. 🌊 See image from above ➡ https://lnkd.in/dZkYvTZF
