In 2023, Providence Alaska provided $67,000 in community benefit funds to the Valdez Food Bank to help fund meal-delivery services for older adults and emergency financial assistance to low-income families. The Valdez Senior Center works with the food bank to deliver daily meals to many homes, along with twice-weekly deliveries of frozen and shelf-stable items that are used to help stock pantries. “When we are delivering food to people, it constitutes kind of an informal wellness check,” said Byron Hales, Valdez Senior Center’s director. “For some of these people, this is the only contact we have with them at all. The opportunity to see someone and have human contact is so crucial. Just little interactions can be so healthy for people, so I think that is a huge benefit of these deliveries.” Hales said the deliveries also give volunteers the chance to see if any other needs could be met, like a ride to the post office or an appointment.

Please join us in congratulating DeAnna Lowden, RN, for being recognized with the LifeCenter Northwest LifeSaver Award! 🎉 DeAnna is a #nurse with the Intensive Care Unit at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Recently, DeAnna was assigned the task of caring for two drastically different patients, one which was nearing end of life and an organ donor. DeAnna nimbly #balanced her duties, transitioning from drastically different emotional and task-driven needs between the two patient rooms. Neither patient nor their families knew the amount of time and details the other was demanding of her because she gave each her undivided attention while #caring for them. When the patient who was an organ donor passed, DeAnna assisted LifeCenter in quickly transitioning this patient to the operating room for organ procurement. As a result, this donor went on to #save the lives of two others via the donation of their heart and lungs. "DeAnna was truly #remarkable to work with and based on what I witnessed that day, the sky is the limit for her nursing career," said LifeCenter Organ Recovery Coordinator Francie Skinner (pictured with DeAnna). "I look forward to working with her again!" #ThankYou DeAnna for providing #compassionate care and living the Providence Mission.

We have been notified of a widespread #fraud scheme in which #scammers impersonate Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents in an attempt to extort money or steal personal identifiable information. There has been reports that the scammers often use accurate caller IDs appearing to be from the #DEA, may provide specific personal information such as professional license numbers and NPI numbers to appear credible, and create a sense of urgency by claiming involvement of other federal agencies like the FBI and allege serious allegations like identity theft or unauthorized account openings. Below are some guidelines to ensure your safety and the security of your personal information: • Never provide money, gift cards, bank account information, or personally identifiable information to unsolicited callers. • Confirm the identity of any law enforcement officer by contacting the respective agency directly using official contact information. • Report any suspicious calls claiming to be from the DEA to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov. • Visit reportfraud.ftc.gov to inform the Federal Trade Commission about the incident for further action/instructions. • If you have already disclosed sensitive information, take immediate steps to protect against identity theft by visiting https://lnkd.in/g6z2JXK. Please be aware that DEA personnel, or any legitimate federal law enforcement officers, will never contact members of the public or medical practitioners to demand money or any other form of payment. They will also never request personal or sensitive information over the phone. Notifications of legitimate investigations or legal actions are only conveyed in person or through official letters.
