[ under construction ] A curated collection of industry and practitioner research models for understanding customers, organizations, cultures.
As a fan of Ben & Mike's book, this is a delightful real-world application of their ideas. Thanks for sharing!
We recently ran a workshop aimed at applying user ecosystem thinking to our service, Funding service design. You can read what we learned in this blog. It was great working with the amazing Nicole Aleong from TPX on this.
So much to think about when embarking on collaborative research. Came across this detailed guidance & reflection on "Creating authentic, effective partnerships between organizations and people with lived experiences". Can't wait to dive into these resources (webinar recording + 62-page toolkit PDF).
Co-Design event where a panel of Lived Experience Experts and designers at UCSF will share learnings from their co-design work! Thanks for sharing the info Thomas Both https://lnkd.in/g-B_5rck
Getting past the mechanics is essential. Interesting to hear this number: " ... it takes a skilled [uxR] practitioner about 10 hours to become proficient with an LLM model when they set the intention to integrate it into their work processes"

UX and market researchers, here's a challenge: spend 10 hours working with ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini this month. Why 10 hours? I completely agree with Wharton professor Ethan Mollick's assessment that it takes a skilled practitioner about 10 hours to become proficient with an LLM model when they set the intention to integrate it into their work processes. I am asking you to go through this exercise for a simple reason: as more researchers get past the initial learning curve when exploring these systems, we can move beyond discussing the basics of prompt engineering to more important considerations, including the ethical and quality implications for our work, our field, and our industries. This Thursday, May 9th, Andrew Duchon and I will hold a free presentation to help researchers jumpstart their journey into the world of GenAI and Large Language Models. Link to the Zoom registration in the comments. In the presentation, I'll share the experience of my first 10 hours using these systems as well as some of my biggest lessons learned. Among the use cases we'll cover: - Analyze interview transcripts from a large-scale qualitative interview project to compare to my takeaways - Review and synthesize moderator and observer notes taken from a usability study - Assist in crafting a user interview guide based on the research study goals and themes - Summarize open-ended responses from survey respondents Please join us on 5/9 at 2pm ET for our free presentation. A clear & spectacular case study, from the land of SF parklets ... Many thanks!

What has the systemic turn in service design research left behind? In a new publication, Audun Formo Hay and I suggest that recent developments within service design have led to a neglect of the emotional experiences of actors. Based on a literature review and interviews with designers, we call for an integrated approach to emotions and systems: https://lnkd.in/d38pVxJH Plus, stay tuned for some sneak peeks into some exciting design research experiments we have brewing at the intersection of emotions and service systems.
