We celebrate, thank you!
This year marks Silver Ots's 10th work anniversary at SAMI. We asked him to reflect on the past decade with us.
What do you do at SAMI daily?
"A typical day in the product development department involves planning, designing, strength calculations, building prototypes, testing, analyzing feedback from tests and making conclusions. Additionally, existing products are further developed based on valuable feedback from clients. There's a lot of interaction with other departments at SAMI and our partners."
"Self-improvement and staying up-to-date with new materials, technologies, and developments in road maintenance equipment are everyday parts of a product development engineer's job. These all aim to implement product innovations to create the best road maintenance equipment. In summary, I'm involved in product development and leading a small product development team."
What has been the most memorable thing at SAMI in the last ten years? Are there another ten years to come?
"There have been many memorable and exciting events, but unfortunately, not everything can be revealed. The most instructive and amusing lessons come from testing prototypes. We've also had many trips and team events, which also hold fond memories. Our field of activity requires adaptation – those ten years have passed very quickly. In product development, long-term experience is important for applying acquired skills and knowledge to problem-solving. It is important to create a project from start to finish, be involved in its production, and see its first years of use. This is how good road maintenance equipment developed."
"We still have a long journey ahead with SAMI's product development team and many exciting projects planned. So, another ten years and even more are entirely possible. I've been fortunate in life and made the right choice of profession—engineering suits me, and I enjoy it. I like it when everything is precise. I want to create quality products that we can be proud of."
What have been the biggest challenges?
"Every new product and product development is a challenge, as is creating and implementing accurate product development processes.
Highlight some SAMI products that you have developed.
"Over the past ten years, many products have passed through my desk, directly or indirectly, in the form of developments or new products. I wouldn't highlight any specific product – they are all important. It's worth remembering that even the world's best tractor is useless without the best road maintenance equipment."
