How do we ensure the decarbonisation of shipping and aviation is fair and equitable? That’s the question we put to our brilliant panellists at our third birthday event at Somerset House last week. “One obvious way that things have to change is we need to apply the polluter pays principle to aviation,” says Dhananjayan Sriskandarajah, CEO of the New Economics Foundation. When it comes to shipping, Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization(IMO), said: “In the process of finalising and adopting technical and economic measures, there’s also the focus or the assistance that will need to be provided to developing countries, in particular to Small Island Developing States.” 📹 Watch our video to hear more from these panellists, as well as John Gummer, Rt Hon The Lord Deben, Chair of the Council for Net Zero Transport, and our CEO Aoife O'Leary. ⤵️
