We recently launched the CAP4FUTURE Hub at the UNIDO Multilateral Industrial Policy Forum 2024 in Riyadh! This initiative, supported by DLA Piper, under the leadership of UNIDO , United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and SDG Academy aims to coordinate upskilling on #sdg9 for governments, agencies, corporations, VET, and academic units. Global Value Chains dominate global economic activity, but they are not always kind to people and the planet. Transforming Global Supply Chains to be inclusive and sustainable could significantly contribute to achieving the SDGs. #UNIDO #UNITAR #SDGAcademy #MIPFl2024 #GlobalValueChains #InclusiveBusiness #SustainableDevelopmentGoals

The global #MECCE Project partnership has launched a video exploring the characteristics of quality climate communication and education (CCE). The video is built from an analysis of global case studies and offers a new framework for thinking about studies of quality CCE across sectors, regions, and cultures. The video was created by the Sustainability and Education Policy Network’s MECCE Project and Polygraph Productions Research Communication and launched at a UNESCO Greening Education Partnership webinar on October 17, 2024. #ClimateEducation #ClimateAction #GreeningEducation
🌍🎥 NEW VIDEO 🌍🎥 How can communication and education drive real climate action? The #MECCE Project has been exploring this crucial question through case studies from around the world. We are thrilled to share this video, which draws on an analysis of MECCE Project case studies that are exploring quality climate communication and education (CCE). The case studies are teaching us that quality CCE engages with relationships: relationships with places, communities, and stories across audiences, sectors, and regions worldwide. The post also emphasizes the critical role of policy in advancing CCE across systems and institutions, and highlights the leadership of Indigenous communities, youth, and women in achieving a post-carbon future. Many thanks to the case studies who made this work possible, and to Tom Lowe from Polygraph Productions Research Communication for helping us bring these inspiring stories to life! Today the SDG Academy is in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at #MIPF2024 and we proudly announce our new initiative with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and UNIDO Capabilities 4 the Future Hub. Watch the live stream below (link to video in the comments). From Director Patrick Paul Walsh: "This is an initiative to coordinate governments, corporations and VET under UNIDO. We need industry that is kind to people, kind to planet." From SDG Academy Program Associate and BuildSkills Academy's Isabela Carrozza Joia: "[In addition to the BuildSkills Academy, the SDG Academy has another pilot program within the insurance industry]. Insurance isn't mentioned in the Pact for the Future, despite 'risk' being cited over 50 times. To highlight the insurance sector's contributions to the SDGs, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network partnered with Better Insurance Network and United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to produce a MOOC, hosted by the SDG Academy on Insurance and the SDGs, coming early 2025."

This week, Jeffrey Sachs, the President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network's delivered welcoming remarks at the 20th International Conference on Inclusive Insurance in Nepal. Read a wonderful summary from SDG Academy High-Level Advisory Council member Lorcán Hall below.
“Insurance is a fundamental feature of any well-functioning economy.” Many thanks to Dirk Reinhard, the #ICII2024 Steering Committee, and the Nepalese Organising Committee for inviting Professor Jeffrey Sachs, President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), to deliver the welcoming remarks at the 20th International Conference on Inclusive Insurance in Nepal this week (video link in comment below). The ICII is one of the world’s most important multistakeholder dialogue fora, bringing together (re)insurers, brokers, (sub-)national governments, regulators, supervisors, multilateral organisations, development banks, humanitarian agencies, civil society organisations, philanthropy, and academia to share best practices on how insurance solutions can be made available, accessible, and affordable to many more people. Professor Sachs makes several valuable contributions in his remarks, emphasising that private insurance is a fundamental feature of any well-functioning economy, the need to make insurance inclusive for low-income households and small businesses, how insurance complements social protection systems, how insurance has a crucial role to play in the Loss and Damage Fund, and how the insurance industry can play a greater role in the International Financial Architecture. SDSN is currently developing a Position Paper: Sustainable Development and the Insurance Industry, which will be published later this year. SDSN is also teaming up with Better Insurance Network and UNITAR to develop a new, free, and online course for public and private sector audiences which will be launched in Q1 2025: Insurance and the SDGs. We look forward to collaborating with Dirk and the ICII on these initiatives and continuing to support their important in the coming years.
