🚢 Enhancing performance, reducing downtime – a success story with Shell Alexia 40 XC When T.S. Lines Ltd. faced challenges with engine deposit build-up on its container ship MV TEH Victory, frequent inspections and alternating between high- and low-BN lubricants became a time-consuming necessity. Shell Marine recommended that T.S. Lines Ltd switch to Shell Alexia 40 XC, our high-performance Category II cylinder oil, designed to keep modern low-speed two-stroke engines running cleaner and more efficiently. The results? ✅ 30% cleaner engines compared to previous BN40 oils ✅ 10 fewer hours per month spent on inspections and repairs ✅ $5,000 annual savings in working time ✅ Improved main engine reliability Thanks to the superior cleaning ability of Shell Alexia 40 XC, T.S. Lines’ engineers now have greater confidence in their engines, with piston rings staying cleaner and wear rates reduced — all without the complexity of alternating lubricants. 💡 Discover how Shell Marine can optimise your fleet’s performance: https://lnkd.in/ejp9thtU #Marine #Lubricants #Shipping

🌍🚢 The message from BloombergNEF New Energy Finance Summit in San Francisco is clear: Decarbonising freight isn’t a solo mission. 🚢🌍 Lower-carbon marine fuels cost at least twice as much as fuel oil. Making the economic case for their supply and use is one of the industry's biggest challenges today. This makes it difficult for individual operators to drive change alone. Fuel suppliers, cargo owners, shippers, freight forwarders, and end consumers all play a part to make the energy transition happen.   Watch the video below as Houda Dabboussi, President of Shell Marine, shares her insights from the event. Connect with us to explore how cargo owners, shippers and freight forwarders can reduce scope 3 emissions from sea freight: https://lnkd.in/emwfyAUC #Shipping #Decarbonisation #Freight #Collaboration Cautionary note: https://lnkd.in/gi_wDYdR

  • For many producers and suppliers of consumer goods, their supply chain activities contribute to their indirect emissions, also known as Scope 3 emissions. Sea freight is an efficient way to ship cargo around the world, moving over 12 billion tonnes annually [1]. That’s a whopping 1.5 tonnes per person on the planet based on the current global population [2]. However, its sheer scale means action needs to be taken by every player in the value chain to help lower GHG emissions. What tangible actions can cargo owners take to decarbonise their sea logistics? Are cargo owners and consumers ready to back low-carbon shipping with their purchasing power? Join Shell Marine President Houda Dabboussi at the BloombergNEF Summit in San Francisco to unlock new business opportunities in decarbonising freight. She will share examples of cargo owners who have collectively demonstrated demand for transporting consumer products and cars in ships using low-carbon fuels. And how such aggregated action can help drive innovation and underpin investments to more rapidly scale the adoption of low-carbon marine fuels. Houda will be at a BNEF fireside chat with Dana Marie Perkins on February 4 at 11:30am; and a networking breakfast, hosted by Shell, on decarbonising air and sea freight on February 5 at 8:30am.  #Decarbonisation #SeaFreight #shipping #logistics #BNEF Cautionary note: https://lnkd.in/gi_wDYdR [1] The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) The Review of Maritime Transport 2024. • 🌊 Meet Northern Pathfinder 🌊 one of the world’s first carriers of liquid carbon dioxide (CO₂) for large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS), developed by Northern Lights JV, a joint venture between Equinor, TotalEnergies, and Shell.   Paving the way for cross-border CCS, the Northern Pathfinder demonstrates how liquefied CO₂ can be transported for these types of projects.   Powered by Shell’s 130 years of shipping expertise, combined with cutting-edge innovations, this vessel delivers lower emissions and fuel savings, thanks to: ⚡Dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines – a lower-carbon alternative compared to fuel oil. 💨 Air lubrication technology to reduce drag and rotor sails to harness wind energy – both designed to optimise efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. 🚢Optimised hull design – crafted to enhance performance and operational efficiency.   As she embarks on her maiden voyage from Dailan, China, to Øygarden, Norway, Shell supplied the fuel for her first LNG bunkering stopover in Singapore.   👉 Learn more about Shell CCS at www.shell.com/CCS. 👉 Learn more about Nothern Lights at https://lnkd.in/ePSy7bKH   #Shipping #LNG #Marine #CCS Cautionary note: https://lnkd.in/gi_wDYdR

  • 🌍 Unlocking the potential of mass balanced bio-LNG to help decarbonise shipping 🚢 In October, Shell was part of a bio-LNG bunkering pilot in the Port of Rotterdam supplying mass balanced bio-LNG to a container ship. https://lnkd.in/ePNaueBE   Ever wondered how mass balancing works? Read on.   ➡️ Mass balancing uses existing infrastructure ⬅️    With mass balancing, biomethane made from biomass* is mixed with fossil gas in the gas grid. This mixture travels through the pipelines as one. Within the interconnected infrastructure, gas is liquefied and supplied to ships as bunker fuel.   Imagine pouring organic orange juice into a large container of regular orange juice - it mixes together.   Like the orange juice, once biomethane and fossil gas are mixed, you can't tell which gas is which. This is where an independent certification organisation comes in. The sustainability credentials of the biomethane put into the grid are allocated to the product supplied to the ship in accordance with regulations. This ensures integrity and transparency of the carbon claim.   At Shell, we use EU-recognised certification organisations to ensure proof of sustainability throughout the entire supply chain, from the feedstock to the final delivery. Our proof of sustainability is recognised for compliance under regulatory frameworks such as the EU Emissions Trading System and FuelEU Maritime.   ➡️ Why is it Important for shipping? ⬅️ 👍 Scalable: Using existing gas and LNG infrastructure means less need for new, expensive facilities and transportation, making it easier to scale up bio-LNG for the shipping industry. 👍 Flexible: Customers can choose the bio-LNG blend percentage to meet their carbon intensity targets.   Mass balancing is an established accounting method used by many industries, including road and aviation. Now this potential can be unleashed to speed up shipping decarbonisation.   Interested to explore how LNG and bio-LNG can help decarbonise your fleet? President Shell Marine

Last week, I had the pleasure of joining Crowley in the christening of The Progress, the largest Jones Act compliant LNG bunker barge. This impressive 416-foot vessel is chartered to Shell for our bunkering operations in the Port of Savannah, GA.   Despite the rain and a few snags on the day, the team had scenarios and mitigations planned to ensure the event was a success. It was fantastic to see our resilience in action and know that we will always find a way to deliver.   While the christening was a memorable day, it’s just one example of the dedication our teams show every day. Across the globe, our teams work tirelessly to ensure LNG is safely and reliably delivered to our customers. With more LNG dual-fuel vessels hitting the water each month, every new ship that we fuel may bring unique operational requirements, and our teams consistently meet these challenges head-on.   The Progress is already enabling an efficient and dependable supply of LNG to fuel ships. She is a great addition to our global fleet of 12 bunker vessels, supporting a world-leading LNG bunkering network across 26 locations in 12 countries. By harnessing the potential of lower carbon fuels available today, like LNG and bio-LNG, we are paving the way to achieving the shipping industry's 2050 net zero greenhouse gas emissions ambition.
