I realize I haven’t posted about Slack workflows lately, primarily because I’ve been involved in some other projects. Let’s get back to talking about workflows! What better time than on a Friday Happy Hour! 📑 Slack Lists - they have proven to be a great productivity booster and a way to track items that you are working on. However, there are some deficiencies (that I’ve discussed before) when it comes to automation and workflows. 📅 Suppose you have a List with a column for due dates. Want to be alerted when something is due? That’s not possible, unless you are looking at every one of your Lists every day for an item that is “due.” 👑 Is there a solution we can come up with? (Stop me if you’ve heard this before…) Yes - let’s create a new, custom workflow step! This one is called “List Due Dates Alerts." It's a new step for Workflow Builder that will look at a single List and provide you with an alert on any ## number of days that you specify before it is due. You have the option to define the List, the due date column, the number of days beforehand, and then even who (or what channel) to alert! When the workflow runs, it will send a message with a summary of the items due, as well as a link to the List. ⚡ How does this help? Well, schedule this workflow to run every morning (or whenever you’re ready to look at your due items) and the workflow will automatically “due” everything for you! Now you can get a summary of what to work on (or postpone) in your Slack Lists! 🍺 Note: This post was not sponsored by 💻 Slack Developers, nor was I drinking on the job.
