Our friends at dynamical.org released their first dataset: an hourly Global Forecast System (GFS) analysis from 2015-present. Today, we are excited to announce the first entry into dynamical’s catalog: an hourly GFS analysis from 2015-01-15 to present. https://lnkd.in/eQrqf6nD Our pals at Source Cooperative are generously providing storage for this first catalog entry. Their team is wonderful and their mission is badass - check them and the broader Radiant Earth organization out. --- Last week, we announced dynamical.org to the world. The response was unexpected: in just seven days, over a hundred nerds registered themselves as testers with many more following along for the ride. Apparently, we are not alone in our frustration with yesterday's weather data. Together we can create a future of well-organized data about our most beloved chaotic system!

📢 Today we’re announcing another big step towards our goal of democratizing access to information about our changing environment: publication of our own global, cloud free Sentinel-2 dataset. 12 bands, all in full resolution, aggregated over all of 2023 — over 33 TB in total! Our goal in sharing this dataset is to start to break down some of the technical and financial barriers groups face when undertaking an analytical project. Less time spent preparing data means more time solving real problems. Read more about our first data release for this dataset and let us know what you'll do with it. https://lnkd.in/ekNcfw5r
“One of the core motivations behind building Source Cooperative is to enable generous groups like Earth Genome to share their work with others,” says Jed Sundwall, Executive Director at Radiant Earth. “This Sentinel-2 dataset is an example of how open data enables the creation of extremely valuable data products that can help our community collectively accelerate environmental monitoring and analysis efforts.”

Finally, we are ready to share our building footprint data from #SourceCooperative (https://lnkd.in/g_y-wnEy). This dataset covers 211 cities in Japan and includes all cities #PLATEAU (JP government leading project) offers at present. We prepared data as #GeoParquet and #GeoPackage formats for each city. We also created merged version of polygon and centroid data as GeoParquet (there are lots of buildings in Japan 😅 ). Attributes are very detailed so we prepared those ancillary data as separate Parquet files or GeoPackage tables. You can join those attributes back with gml_id. We also added our own attributes such as building heights and footpring areas from original geometries. We used #FME to create this dataset and I am very proud of our team to create this high quality and easy-to-use dataset. I hope this dataset is useful for your project! Thank you, Radiant Earth, to provide us such a wonderful platform to share data.
