We are thrilled to share that CI Consulting by S&P Global Commodity Insights had the privilege of serving as a market advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Loan Programs Office (LPO) on the following two projects supported by DOE. The first is Sunwealth Holdco 18 LLC’s Project Polo, which LPO announced on January 16, 2025, that closed on a $289.7 million DOE loan guarantee to help finance the deployment of up to 1,000 solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery energy storage systems (BESS) located primarily at commercial and industrial facilities and integrated across up to 27 states. Project Polo marks a pivotal step in deploying PV and BESS across underserved communities throughout the United States. It’s a powerful example of how renewable energy innovation can align with meaningful social impact, empowering communities that have historically been overlooked in the transition to clean energy. The second is Zum Energy Geo, LLC’s Project Marigold, which LPO announced on January 17, 2025, received a conditional commitment for a loan guarantee of up to $705.1 million to help finance the deployment of a fleet of battery-electric school buses (BEBs), 17 BEB charging lots across eight states containing bi-directional chargers, and associated software for transportation, charge management, and virtual power plants (VPP). The availability of DOE financing for Project Marigold is subject to the satisfaction of certain technical, legal, environmental, and financial conditions. If finalized, Project Marigold will be deployed in at least thirteen public school districts to electrify their bus fleets while also leveraging 396 MWh of total BEB battery capacity to support local grids and improve grid reliability during periods of peak electricity demand, when school buses are typically not in transit. The reduction of noise and ambient air pollutants from diesel combustion as a result of Project Marigold will improve environmental, health, and educational outcomes for children and their communities. CI Consulting stands ready to support clients with actionable market insights, ensuring that stakeholders can make informed choices that advance clean energy and sustainability goals. It’s deeply rewarding to contribute to initiatives that deliver environmental, economic, and social benefits. These are the types of partnerships and solutions that will define the future of sustainable energy. Congratulations to everyone involved in achieving these milestones!
