The Stellantis Tech Center in Auburn Hills, MI, just got a major upgrade! Our wind tunnel now features a moving ground plane to measure real-world aerodynamic drag with pinpoint accuracy.  Why does this matter? Every tiny improvement in drag (just .003 Cd) can add one extra mile to the range of our battery electric vehicles! ⚡With this innovative tech, wheels move like they’re on the road, thanks to air-cushioned belts at all four corners and a fifth belt running beneath the vehicle. Battery pack safety is essential in electric vehicles, and the key challenge is protecting the battery in the event of a crash, without significantly increasing the vehicle’s weight. The winners of our recent Genius Award came up with an innovative solution: a system of reinforcements in varying sizes that work together to safeguard the battery pack from impacts. Over the past few years, the Stellantis paint team has developed and validated a new generation of sealers, paints, and low-bake E-coats, creating new opportunities for some of our plants to reduce CO2 emissions. Thanks to this innovative technology, Stellantis paint shops have already reduced energy consumption by 27% compared to 2021.
