Are you an early career chemist in the UK? The RSC is looking to fund five early career researchers to attend and present their research at the 2025 Commonwealth Chemistry Congress in South Africa. Submit your application by the extended 10 Nov deadline: rsc.li/4ePqCgU
🌟 The 3rd Commonwealth Chemistry Congress takes place on 11-14 May 2025 in Stellenbosch, South Africa! https://lnkd.in/eNnTdw4N We are delighted to announce the next edition of this event, which follows on from the successful 2nd Commonwealth Chemistry Congress held in Trinidad and Tobago in 2023. The Commonwealth Chemistry Congress will promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), strengthen scientific capacity, inspire and elevate the role of the chemical sciences to society and policy makers, and celebrate achievements in chemistry. A unique feature of this event is its emphasis on equal representation, inclusivity, and participation among all Commonwealth nations. To ensure equal representation, over 30 Commonwealth countries are currently engaged in selecting their national representatives. 🔍 Are you an early career chemist interested in representing your country? Contact your national chemical society to express your interest or reach out directly to the Commonwealth Chemistry Secretariat (secretariat@commonwealthchemistry.org) with any questions. #CommonwealthChemistry #GlobalGoals

There's a ton of things you can make from a certain biomass type, and conversely there are incredibly many bioresource options to match your intended application. How do you even begin to make (fast) decisions in such a complex domain? In a collaborative effort, together with colleagues from a.o. the COST Action 20133 FULLRECO4US, Britt Segers reviewed the links between biomass diversity and its valorization potential. Most importantly, this work suggests an interesting approach to support fast decision making, looking a state variables rather than process variables. Thanks to all contributors Philippe Nimmegeers, Marc Spiller, Giorgio Tofani, Edita Jasiukaitytė Grojzdek, Elina Dace, Timo Kikas, Jorge Marchetti, Milena Rajic, Güray Yildiz, Ph.D. and Pieter Billen. The paper is now open access available in RSC Sustainability: https://lnkd.in/edYSWXfZ The research was supported by the FOD Economie / SPF Economie / FPS Economy (Energy Transition Fund project ADV_BIO), the Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen (FWO), Universiteit Antwerpen (BOF) and collaborations made possible via COST Action 20133 FULLRECO4US. Can API synthesis be more sustainable? 🌱 In our latest article, Emilia Leitão dives into the potential of mechanochemistry and how it is revolutionizing chemical processes, offering significant environmental benefits. This innovative approach uses mechanical force to synthesize new molecules with minimal solvents or solventless conditions, reducing waste and energy use. 💡 Curious? Read the article, “Comparison of Traditional and Mechanochemical Production Processes for Nine Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs),” published in the RSC Sustainability Journal by the Royal Society of Chemistry here: https://lnkd.in/dHT6ijax If you want to learn more about green chemistry and the sustainable alternatives we are adopting at Hovione, schedule your meeting here: https://lnkd.in/de2Q_eFr #RSCSustainability #greenchemistry #sustainablechemistry #APIsynthesis #mechanochemistry #drugsubstance #cdmo #initforlife

Read now the Editorial for the "Measuring green chemistry: methods, models, and metrics" themed collection 🚨 🔗https://lnkd.in/eZ8fywmh This cross-journal collection intends to create a virtual and live place to collect scientific publications dedicated to measuring improvements in terms of sustainability, including contributions that propose and apply green metrics and that underline their importance in terms of their teaching and dissemination. All papers included were personally selected by Green Chemistry's Board Members André Bardow (ETH Zürich) and Serenella Sala (European Commission - Joint Research Centre), Green Chemistry's Associate Editor Luigi Vaccaro (Università degli Studi di Perugia) and Green Chemistry's Chair Javier Pérez-Ramírez (ETH Zürich) The collection includes, but is not limited to, examples of application of green chemistry principles as well as methods for measuring their efficacy in improving chemicals or in selecting a preferred alternative, such as E factor, green analytical procedure Index (GAPI) processes, process mass intensity, eco-scale, techno-economic analysis, life-cycle assessment, carbon balance analysis. The collection entails example of application of individual metrics and indicators as well as multicriteria assessment and addresses as well green chemistry education.
