As a former athlete and director of ops, I've definitely been on the recruiting roller coaster. The process has changed so much since I went through it in 2012-2014 (wow, I feel old!) and even more since I was handling softball ops just last year. Here are a few things I've learned from my experience: 1. Recruiting is super competitive and waits for no one. 2. The landscape is constantly changing. 3. It can be overwhelming for both athletes and coaches. 4. You need to have a solid system in place. 5. Organization is crucial and can dictate the outcome. 6. It’s kind of like dating, which is terrifying. 7. It’s incredibly time-consuming. Going through the recruiting process and then managing it as an ops, I wish I had known some of this sooner. Now, working for a tech company that provides solutions for sports organizations, I don't know how coaches are surviving in this fast-paced, ever-changing recruiting world without the right tools. One of the reasons I bought and integrated Teamworks Recruiting Communication when I was at Wichita State was to alleviate the recruiting pain I was feeling, enhance our program, and ultimately save our coaches time so they could focus on what they do best: coaching.
