In 2008 ethan austin and I built the world’s first crowdfunding platform that ended up helping people raise hundreds of millions of dollars for out of pocket medical expenses. But we certainly didn’t do it alone. My sister Ariana Vargas led the largest fundraiser on the site for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. And our team of over 60 Give Forward alumni, our incredible investors, and our community scaled it to a company that was filled with joy, optimism, and pride. This morning I woke up to a GoFundMe (GiveForward’s home) for my son who is conquering brain cancer with an unbelievable outpouring of support from these same people. I can’t thank you all enough for being on this long but surmountable journey with us. Your generosity will ensure that he has the life and family he deserves and that we can be together more as a family over the coming months. B❤️Positive https://lnkd.in/gcqFDx8A

Last week, our first Neighborhood-Series North Lawndale TechRise Competition, in partnership with the Breedlove Entrepreneurship Center at the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago officially came to a close!🎉 We previously shared the inspiring story of Bobby Price and the journey that led to the founding of his barbershop Principle Barbers, but now we had the privilege of having Bobby himself on the mic. Hear his thoughts, as a North Lawndale native, as he shares how initiatives like the Neighborhood Series—and broader ecosystem efforts to unite communities and make the venture and entrepreneurship space more accessible—create invaluable opportunities for neighborhoods that are full of talent, but often get overlooked. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible 💪! We're looking forward to seeing you at the next one (more details to come...).
