Last week, the Techstars Workforce Development Accelerator 2024 cohort pitched in Denver, CO, celebrating their Demo Day! This community celebration was one for the books, as founders were joined by Colorado Governor Jared Polis, and Techstars Co-Founder and CEO, David Cohen. We’re grateful for all of the Techstars OGs, mentors, and alumni who joined us, as well as the new community members who came to support! Featured in an article by The Colorado Sun, this event showcased exactly how our accelerator program helps bring visibility to companies who are bridging the disconnect between finding good workers and good jobs by facing workforce challenges head on. A week out of Techstars, and I'd love to share some thoughts for early-stage founders. 💡 Whether you're on the fence about applying (spoiler: do it!) or gearing up for a startup accelerator, here's my take: 🎯 If you want to apply, focus on your idea and traction. We got in cold. No networking, no outreach - just uploaded our deck and forgot about it. Out of 900+ apps for 12 spots, we still made it. You don't need to be reaching out to anyone or making connections. Just fine tune. your pitch deck and work on traction. 🌟 Mentor network is where Techstars really shines. Sure, I have pretty solid networks, but this is different. These mentors have built, scaled, and sold enterprises - repeatedly. It's like having a personal coach who knows exactly which startup muscles you need to beef up. Plus, they're so fun to chat with - I love founders! 🤝 The cohort? Absolutely delightful. I've been part of many 'tribes', but this one hit different. Somehow, the program curated a group that's complementary yet diverse enough to kill any sense of competition. Just support and shared struggles. Founder mental health is no joke, and this community kept us energized, not burned out. 🎭 Demo day prep is INTENSE. We're talking 10+ hours weekly for the last month. But man, the results... Check out our YouTube (ours was probably not as polished as others but still!) Those pitches look effortless, right? Spoiler: it was anything but. More like Shakespeare in the Park level of crafting :) Would I do this again? Hell yeah! And so should you. Thinking about it? Reach out. Last week capped Mapt's Demo Day and final week in the Techstars Workforce Development Accelerator. A huge thanks to Dave Cass, our brilliant Managing Director, and Sasha Green, the heart behind the program. Dave and Sasha fostered an incredible community of talented, visionary founding teams (no easy feat). I'm particularly grateful for the entrepreneurial community and friends built over the last 12 weeks. Thanks in part to Techstars, the Mapt (Techstars '24) made serious strides on our mission to democratize access to college admissions coaching. Shoutout to Xuewei Qian (Vera), Dan Gardner, Kelly Jin, Aditya Nair, Talha Gondal. Some of our recent key highlights: - 20% WoW active user growth over the last 7 weeks - 5,000+ organic signups - Implemented a social impact map and analytics framework on decreasing student stress caused by college admissions planning and increasing a student’s sense of belonging on college campuses. - Launched Mapt’s new personalized admissions roadmaps for students and families.
