"It is a truism that technology moves faster than policy or diplomacy, especially when it is driven by intense market competition in the private sector. If there was one major conclusion of this year’s Aspen Strategy Group meeting, it was that governments need to pick up their pace." ASG Co-Chair Joseph Nye examines how AI amplifies the national security risks posed by bioweapons, cybercrime, autonomous weapons, and more. "Ukraine recognizes the imperative of building large quantities of weapons—even at the expense of quality—to hurl at the enemy," writes ASG member General David H. Petraeus, US Army (Ret.). The Pentagon, he argues, must overhaul its processes for production and procurement, as speed and volume trump capability when it comes to unmanned systems. “Technology is moving faster than our ability to harness it. The path forward therefore must feature collaboration with private organizations that can equip America and its allies with real-time lessons from the battlefield. Doing so will help us escape the cycle that too often delivers the technology of yesterday to tomorrow’s battlefield.” Read "Ukraine's Lessons for the Pentagon," originally published by The Wall Street Journal, and the full Aspen Strategy Group compilation "Intelligent Defense": https://lnkd.in/eEJrZHSy
