About us
The CARE-WWF Alliance works at the critical intersection of development and conservation. Powered by WWF and CARE, two global leaders in their respective fields, the Alliance leverages complementary skills, competencies, and scale to strengthen ecosystems, support the women who depend on them, and help build a future where people and nature thrive. Formed in 2008 to tackle complex challenges that require a diverse range of experience, the Alliance brings together WWF’s conservation and restoration expertise; CARE’s gender equality, nutrition, and livelihood development expertise; both organizations’ combined expertise in climate change adaptation; and their joint presence in more than 40 countries.

In honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day, we highlight the powerful role Indigenous women play around the world in addressing the impacts of climate change in their communities and beyond. In Peru, Indigenous women are using traditional handicraft skills to preserve their forests through sustainable enterprises while gaining economic independence and creating spaces to raise their voices and break down barriers. "Thanks to handicrafts, we have children who are now professionals. Some of them are teachers, nurses, and official tour guides and remain in our community. Emma Tapullima, a Kukama Kukamiria artisan, says. "Little by little, we began participating in more spaces for dialogue and exposure, successfully communicating our needs, among them the creation of a bilingual intercultural school, which is now a reality." https://lnkd.in/gyG3qAma WWF Perú #Womensclimateleadership #IndigenousPeoplesDay

The WWF Living Planet Report is out. And the news is not good. Every indicator that tracks the state of nature on a global scale shows a decline. We can address it. The nations of the world have set global goals for a thriving, sustainable future. But, as the report lays out, approaching climate, biodiversity and development goals in isolation raises the risk of conflicts between different objectives – for example, between using land for food production, biodiversity conservation or renewable energy. With a coordinated, inclusive approach, however, conflicts can be avoided and trade-offs minimized and managed. 🤝 Integrating efforts opens up many potential opportunities to simultaneously conserve and restore nature, mitigate and adapt to climate change, and improve human well-being. Let's act faster. Together. Full report: https://lnkd.in/dkSnZHr

🌍💪 From Inequity to Impact: Elevating Women's Climate Action 💪🌍 We are so grateful to the four remarkable women leaders who shared their stories at our session, "From Inequity to Impact: Solutions to Elevate Women's Climate Action," today at the NEST Climate Campus. It was inspiring to see a full house—an engaged, eager audience—ready to learn and break down barriers that hold back women in the climate space -- in financing, social norms, and decision-making. When women rise, so does the power of climate action. Let's continue to push boundaries and create a future where everyone can lead the way to a more sustainable, equitable world. 🌏✨ We are excited to share speaker-specific insights and actions when Climate Week has ended. In the meantime, we want to thank Loren Mayor, WWF-US, who moderated a compelling and thoughtful discussion, and our insightful and inspirational panelists:` Madhuvanti (Madhu) Deshmukh, CARE Iris Mwanza, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Robyn James, The Nature Conservancy #WomenInClimate #ClimateAction #BreakingBarriers #Leadership #Sustainability #EquityForAll; #WWFattheNest

The disproportionate impact of climate change on women is well documented. We also know that women are uniquely positioned to be part of a solution that restores the climate, supports their community, and builds their own future. Join us at NY Climate Week for a rich discussion on what it takes to move from inequity to impact for women climate leaders, with inspiring case studies and thoughtful discussion. 🌍 Women Hold the Key to Climate Solutions 🌱 In the face of climate change and hunger, the power of women’s leadership cannot be overstated. This insightful op-ed from CARE President and CEO Michelle Nunn highlights how women are driving innovative and sustainable solutions to some of the most pressing challenges of our time. From implementing nature-based solutions to leading community initiatives, women are proving that they are not just part of the solution—they are leading it. As we strive for a sustainable future, it's crucial that we recognize and support the vital role women play in shaping resilient and equitable communities. Read more about how women are leading the way in addressing climate change and hunger: Women Hold the Solutions to Addressing Climate Change and Hunger—Just Ask Them #SowingChange #ClimateAction #WomenInLeadership #Sustainability #Resilience #ClimateSolutions
Climate change and hunger impact women more than men. During an extreme weather event, women eat less, grow comparatively less food, and are more likely to die than men. Flooding and extreme heat cause women to lose comparatively more income. And since women are likely to be growing and buying families’ food, their lost production and income means everyone eats less. Women have crucial lived experience on the frontlines of crisis and response. Yet they are far less likely than men to be asked about their needs. And they remain chronically underrepresented in planning and policy discussions. The story changes when women lead. Women small-scale farmers – in Zimbabwe, in Vietnam, in Timor-Leste – are joining forces, getting informed, changing planting and water-harvesting practices, and gaining a voice in scenario planning. Women in the Philippines and nine other countries are leading pioneering, locally owned response platforms that adeptly assess and respond to climate and other crises. Women tell CARE that the biggest challenges they face today relate to climate change and hunger, and women hold the solutions to tackling both. It is long past time for all those planning crisis responses to hear – and heed – women’s voices. #InvestInWomen #ScaleWhatWorks Read my World Economic Forum op-ed: https://ow.ly/Aljc50TfmPG
