As September marks National Suicide Prevention Month, we want to take a moment to recognize the importance of mental health and the efforts being made to support those in need. The veteran population is a major focus of the Humana Foundation’s work. In partnership with Face The Fight, we are committed to cutting veteran suicide rates in half by 2030. Since its establishment in June 2023, Face the Fight has already made significant progress in extending equitable access to suicide prevention efforts among veterans. This investment in the Louisville Urban League (LUL) highlights the Humana Foundation’s commitment to creating health equity and advancing equitable access and outcomes for diverse communities by eliminating the social and structural barriers to good health and healthcare.
Thank you to the community members who joined us for our “In the Kitchen” and court ribbon cutting event at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. Recently, the Humana Foundation awarded the Louisville Urban League (LUL) a $217,000 grant for 12 new indoor hard courts for sports like pickleball, volleyball or basketball at the center. September is National Preparedness Month, which makes it the perfect time to reflect on how we can better prepare our communities for disasters. Preparedness goes beyond emergency kits and evacuation plans. It includes strengthening our infrastructure and systems to withstand and quickly recover from disasters. Unfortunately, disasters often highlight existing inequities, with vulnerable communities bearing the brunt. Strengthening infrastructure is just one way we can bridge these gaps and ensure essential services stay operational for everyone. As Board Chair for The Center for Disaster Philanthropy, I can say that their resources are best-in-class and their commitment to advancing health equity during times of disaster is unmatched. #philanthropy #disasterphilanthropy #communityresilience Check out their article that outlines why infrastructure is critical, here: https://lnkd.in/gE48VK2F

We were truly honored to share our commitment at today's Face The Fight healthcare roundtable discussion at Operation Stand Down Tennessee in Nashville! Humana Foundation CEO Tiffany Benjamin engaged with the region's healthcare industry leaders who play such a critical role in the health and well-being of our military veterans, their families and caregivers. The veteran population is a major focus of the Humana Foundation’s work and we’re proud to support Face the Fight. In partnership with USAA and a growing coalition, we hope to significantly reduce veteran suicide rates across the country. #FaceTheFight #HumanaFoundation #Philanthropy

As part of our employee programming, we offer "matching gifts" to employee donations to eligible nonprofits. And throughout our currently ongoing "Month of Impact" at Humana, we are offering a double match to those employee donations! Sunder Iyer utilized the double match to help keep the Geeva Arts Festival alive here in Louisville when funding was short. Our CEO Tiffany Benjamin attended Leadership Kentucky, Inc. last week and will share insights and takeaways from her experience on our website. Thank you, Leadership Kentucky, for providing the opportunity to get to know the people we serve in our home state!

Last week, I attended Leadership Kentucky, Inc. , a program that brings together leaders from across the state to address complex issues and explore Kentucky’s resources and opportunities. This program gave me the opportunity to meet with Kentucky's leaders and delve into vital topics such as the state’s economy, education, health and human services, law and justice and the environment. Engaging with fellow leaders and gaining new insights always re-energizes me to think differently about how we can help support our communities. Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post about what I learned on the Humana Foundation website.
