An MPS Foundation funded research programme, the Medicine and Motherhood (MAM) Study led by Dr Sinéad Lydon, Associate Professor in Primary Care, University of Galway School of Medicine, launched its survey at the recent Women in Medicine in Ireland Network (WiMIN) Conference. This short but important survey aims to develop an understanding of the experiences of women doctors working in Ireland around family planning, pregnancy and motherhood and its relationship to doctor wellbeing, work-life balance, and career satisfaction. Data from this survey, and other studies within the MAM project, will support the development of evidence-based recommendations intended to improve the experiences of women doctors in Ireland who seek to balance motherhood and a medical career. If you are a woman doctor working in the Republic of Ireland who is either currently pregnant, has a child(ren), or has experienced infertility or accessed fertility treatments, please consider completing the survey, and forwarding the request to colleagues or friends that you think might be interested in participating. Complete the survey: https://lnkd.in/evNBA3aq The survey was launched by a member of the project team, Sanjana Biju, pictured below at the WIMIN Conference: Further information about the project can be found at https://lnkd.in/eTmBG2RD

Interesting paper.
In this piece, Mark Sujan, Tom Lawton and I advocate a shift in the AI narrative from technology-centric questions to those that highlight the urgency of taking a systems perspective of how AI-based clinical systems could be safely and meaningfully used. We explore common questions and suggest reframing them to encourage deeper discussions: Question 1: How can AI 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 for humans? How can AI 𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 human performance? Question 2: How can we be confident that an 𝐀𝐈 is safe? How can we be confident that the 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐈 is safe? Question 3: How can we put a 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐩 to ensure that AI decisions are safe? How can a 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧/𝐀𝐈 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 make decisions safely? https://lnkd.in/ebnSUP5H

To mark #WorldMentalHealthDay we wanted to reshare this valuable resource. The MPS Foundation is proud to be working with FDI World Dental Federation on the Mental Health & Wellbeing in Dentistry project.
Dentists and other members of the dental team can face high levels of demand in their day-to-day work that exceed their abilities to cope, ultimately affecting their work and well-being. The FDI digital toolkit is a valuable resource designed to support institutions, dentists, and dental teams who may need assistance, promoting mental health and well-being in the dental workplace. One of our research projects “Understanding the role patients’ relatives play in ICU decision-making” led by Professor Thérèse Callus, University of Reading and Chris Danbury, Consultant Intensive Care Physician Southampton General Hospital. This project is focused on medico-legal collaborations in exploring the role of relatives in supporting best interests’ decision-making on ICU. The aim of this study is to identify the best ways to support and guide practice, inform the development of the normative framework that will lead to better patient experience, and promote healthcare professional wellbeing. Dr Chris Danbury presented some of the data collected in the pilot project that led to MPS Foundation supported national project at LIVES 2024, the annual ESICM conference in Barcelona.
