Today, we launch our public consultation and unveil ambitious design proposals to transform the Foyers, Lakeside, and Conservatory - breathing new life into this world-famous multi arts centre ✨ 🏗️ Led by architects Allies and Morrison and Asif Khan Ltd., and engineers Buro Happold, the Renewal will celebrate the Barbican’s bold architectural legacy while making it more inclusive and sustainable. Landscape designers Harris Bugg Studio are reimagining the Conservatory planting. Key highlights: 🔹 Foyers: Restoring iconic Brutalist design, improving accessibility & creating flexible, creative spaces. 🔹 Lakeside: Upgrading fountains for passive cooling, enhancing biodiversity & reviving this unique public space. 🔹 Conservatory: A fully accessible, lush urban oasis, open to more visitors year-round. Continuous software development is essential to keep up with changing demands in an evolving industry like log building - nobody knows this better than Mikko Kyläkoski! Timber construction is often seen as a sustainable alternative to less eco-friendly building practices. In the Nordics, it has made a positive impact on the built environment over recent decades. “The use of renewable natural resources is becoming more important every year, and log buildings offer healthy, long-lasting living spaces." Mikko is optimistic about the potential of timber construction technology. He’s witnessed how software has developed alongside the timber building industry. “It’s been exciting to see the industry evolve over the past 20 years. In the early 2000s, traditional log buildings often featured cross-corners, decorative log railings, and log ends. The introduction of non-settling log technology allowed for more complex designs—like larger glass surfaces and column-beam structures—and demanded more from log design software. As a result, the variety of machine cuts has increased dramatically, and design tools have become much more efficient.” #tech #techforgood #cad #bim
