Sometimes you have to stop, take a breath, and exclaim, “That’s so cool!”. I am referring to Trinity’s ongoing project with American Composites Manufacturers Association, whose mission is to build a sustainable future for composite manufacturing. In order to do that, composite manufacturers and their customers need to understand the environmental impacts of the products they make. As manufacturers respond to policies and developments around reducing products’ embodied carbon and other environmental impacts, the ability to provide third party verified EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) becomes a critical factor. Enter Wendy Merz, Trinity’s Sustainability Services Director, and Anna Lasso, founder and CEO of Smart EPD. Together, Trinity, a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Practitioner, and SmartEPD, a Program Operator, are collaborating to develop a LCA -to-EPD generator tool that significantly streamlines the process to issue product EPDs, thereby reducing the cost to ACMA member companies.
