Measuring, improving and recognizing zero waste performance in facilities and organizations.
About us
TRUE is a third party zero waste certification for facilities, events, and construction. The TRUE certification program measures, improves and recognizes zero waste performance by encouraging the adoption of waste management and reduction practices that contribute to positive environmental, health and economic outcomes. A TRUE-certified project’s goal is to divert all solid waste from the landfill, incineration (waste-to-energy) and the environment, leading to a truly circular economy. TRUE certification is administered by Green Business Certification Inc.

TRUE Certification for Zero Waste reposted this
In this edition of USGBC+, I had the pleasure of speaking with leaders from three #LEED and TRUE Certification for Zero Waste certified schools who are building circularity into their operations and curriculum. Maintaining a zero waste facility requires participation from every occupant, every day -- making it both a challenge and an opportunity to instill new perspectives on waste within students and their families. From an organization development perspective, the zero waste framework is an incredible example of facility-wide behavior change, as school leaders experimented with ways to involve students, families, faculty, and staff in an unfamiliar new way of being. Through education, incentivization, and process standardization, these schools are making zero waste a permanent value for their community. Many thanks to Rochester School, Environmental Nature Center, and University of California, Berkeley for their leadership in what I hope will become a global practice in education!

Congratulations to GT's Living Foods, which has achieved its first TRUE Gold certification in Vernon, California. They relied on several key strategies to become a zero waste facility: 🌿 Responsible Ingredient Sourcing & Usage: GTLF recycles 100% of the raw ingredients used in its products. All materials are converted into compost to enrich local soil and promote healthy plant growth, reducing waste from landfills. 📦 Sustainable Packaging Practices: SYNERGY® Raw Kombucha has always been sold in 100% recyclable glass bottles with fully recyclable low-density polyethylene caps. 98% of GTLF's packaging materials are recyclable after consumer use. Recent packaging redesigns have reduced cardboard usage by 70%. 🚚 Carbon Footprint Reduction: 65% of GTLF's suppliers are local to its Los Angeles headquarters. The company has also reduced energy consumption by 7% by increasing the use of electric vehicles like forklifts in its manufacturing facilities. 🧑🏿🤝🧑🏽 Employee Engagement and Training: GTLF empowers all employees and suppliers to participate in its sustainability initiatives. Regular waste reviews and sustainability questionnaires help identify improvement opportunities and ensure compliance with GTLF's sustainability standards. https://prn.to/4gG28IK
