🚰 The future of water infrastructure lies in continuous in-pipe inspection! To answer this need, the TUBERS snake-like inspection robot developed by Demcon is an autonomous robot that navigates water pipelines 24/7, identifying leaks, assessing pipe health, and pinpointing issues in real-time. For more information on our snake-like robot, check out the blog post below. #TUBERS #smartwater #waterinnovation #infrastructuretech #snakerobot #conditionbasedmaintenance #pipeinspection #watermanagement #futureofwater #demcon #sustainablesolutions
TUBERS Project
Repair and Maintenance
Scalable & Modular Robotic Tools for Water Pipeline Inspection & Repair
About us
Water supply systems provide the world with the required amounts of water for the smooth functioning of modern societies. To keep on delivering them, water companies have to upgrade their planning regarding the operation and maintenance of water pipeline networks. Old pipes and unattended leakages can lead to ample quantities of wasted water globally (up to 30%), immense revenue losses (around €16 million) and adverse environmental effects (drinking water issues, wastewater production). The TUBERS project aspires to become a definitive leakage solution for the European water supply sector. By jointly developing a snake-like resident robot, a modular soft robotic platform, a Decision Support System and the needed base stations, the aim is to address the critical demand for improved maintenance of the water distribution pipeline system through 24/7 inspection and targeted in-situ repairs. Therefore, when the project’s ecosystem of robotic platforms and tools is market-ready, it will be able to save 158GWh of energy and 79,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions in a 5-year period. The TUBERS project is part of the digital transformation movement that strives for ground-breaking scientific research, tech-based economic growth, sustainability and societal improvement in Europe. The project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.

🌧️ Floods in Europe: A wake-up call for #watermanagement 🌊 Recent heavy rainfall across the UK and Europe highlights the urgent need for improved water infrastructure. Martin Lambley from Wavin stresses that urban flooding results from outdated systems and climate volatility, requiring a holistic, long-term approach. Innovative solutions like Wavin’s StormForce can support developers from design to installation, helping to safeguard communities. Wavin’s AquaCell NG tanks, made from 100% recycled materials, mimic the natural water cycle, reducing flooding risks. As climate change accelerates, we should prioritise sustainable infrastructure to protect our cities! #urbanflooding #climateresilience #sustainability

1.3 Million meters coming to Yorkshire Water! Yorkshire Water is embarking on a major initiative to replace 1.3 million existing water meters with smart meters, starting in 2025, pending regulatory approval. This initiative aims to enhance service, reduce leakage, and improve customer billing accuracy The transition to smart metering will enable a better understanding of water demand, lead to efficient water usage, and significantly reduce carbon emissions in treatment and distribution. Partnerships with Netmore and Morrison Water Services will ensure the smooth installation and maintenance of these connected meters. #sustainability #watermanagement

💧 Wexford saves over 800,000 litres of water daily! 🌊 Wexford has successfully saved over 800,000 litres of water daily following the detection and repair of 70 major leaks this year—enough to meet the daily needs of more than 6,000 people. This achievement underscores the importance of addressing water loss, as significant amounts of clean drinking water were previously lost underground. Advanced Acoustic Noise Loggers were utilised to accurately locate the leaks, contributing to a more reliable water supply for the community. As efforts continue to reach a national leakage rate of 25% by 2030, this initiative highlights ongoing commitments to water conservation and infrastructure enhancement across the region. #waterconservation #sustainability #cleanwater #leakages

AI solutions for our #watercrisis! As water scarcity becomes a global challenge, innovative solutions are essential. Water suppliers in the UK and Sweden are leveraging artificial intelligence to tackle leakage and optimise resource management. 🔍 Case in Point: •VA SYD in Sweden reduced water loss by 2% using AI to detect leaks as small as 0.25 litres. •Yorkshire Water implemented AI to predict blockages in sewage systems, identifying 90% of potential issues before they cause flooding. While AI usage does require water for cooling servers, the overall benefits—enhanced efficiency and reduced waste—are clear. #watermanagement #watercrisis #waterefficiency

How can #AI tools reduce water loss in a time of crisis?💧 ❓Did you know that leaks can waste up to 70% of drinking water in some areas? That’s the reason our TUBERS Project came into being. Still, there are other initiatives, like the one by the FIDO Tech, that can quickly and accurately detect leaks. In collaboration with Microsoft, FIDO's tool identifies leaks by analysing sound data, enabling utilities to prioritise repairs and minimise wasted resources. #waterconservation #sustainability #smarttech
