Here's what we changed: We identified 5 key challenges holding us back: - We offered significantly more value than we charged for. - No one knew us. - We lacked credibility. - A more visible competitor was copying us 1:1. - We didn’t fire the wrong customers. Here’s how we tackled each one: 1. Charge for the Value Our customers were seeing a boost in engagement & growth with a fraction of resources they needed to invest. We changed our pricing to match the value we were creating. 2. Boost Discovery If they can't find you, they can't buy. Our customers loved us once they found us, so we: - reached out to our ideal customers directly. - ran ads to get our name out there. 3. Build Credibility Big companies want to see other big companies using your product (Catch-22). We focused on large customers who were early adopters (very rare). We went above and beyond to win them over. This led to more customers. We also got SOC2 and HIPAA certifications to show we're serious. 4. Shipped fast When customers did their due diligence, they found our competitors who looked very similar on paper. But when they evaluated us, they found us to be 10x better. We have high iteration velocity and shipped 130 releases in just 6 months! 5. Fire wrong customers Our old pricing attracted many pre-seed companies who created a lot of distraction for the investment we made. Our new model increased the threshold to entry and naturally attracted more mature companies that align with our current stage and goals.

When our competitor Cord announced they were shutting down, most of their premium customers compared Velt (YC) against other players and decided to migrate to us. Here’s how we did it 👇 This was in spite of the fact that our prices were 5x the prices of others in the market (reflective of the value we add). 1. Increased visibility of Velt: • Ran ads for people searching for Cord. • Created a blog post describing the migration process. • Created a dedicated landing page showing how the migration will work and customers who have already done so. • 1:1 outreach over Linkedin. 2. Showed customers how Velt adds 10x more value: • Velt is fully customizable. • Velt has engagement boosting features like loom-style recording, slack-style huddles. • Velt’s commenting and notification features are enterprise grade. • It is so easy to implement, that even their interns could do it. 3. Made the migration a no-brainer: • Wrote a migration service to automatically migrate Cord data to Velt, so customers don’t have to write anything on their own. • Wrote a migration guide and plan for customers to see. 4. Provided awesome custom support: • Created a dedicated slack channel for each customer, to guide them through the process. • Each migration was slightly different, so we tailor made the solutions to meet each customer's needs. • Supported migration over the weekend, so that their users wouldn't notice a thing during the migration. We’ve successfully converted several existing Cord customers like Trumpet, CloudFactory, Vareto, That’s the one, and several others who were trialing their product, such as Pendo.
