#TBT to Auction 1 - The FCC held its first #spectrum auction 30 years ago. That auction, and the dozens that followed, supercharged mobile connectivity in the U.S. Now this anniversary comes at a pivotal time. Read more ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Thirty years ago this week, the FCC held its first spectrum auction. Having supercomputers in our pockets and an app economy that puts the world at our fingertips was a pipedream. Today, Verizon works to power and empower how Americans live, work and play. There is barely a part of daily life that is not affected by the connectivity provided by mobile broadband networks – powered by licensed, auctioned spectrum. That first auction, and the dozens that followed, supercharged mobile connectivity in the U.S. With auctions, wireless companies like Verizon put their spectrum to use broadly and efficiently, developing and investing in new networks and mobile technologies. We moved from 3G, to 4G and now 5G, with near-ubiquitous wireless connections across the nation. Enhanced mobile connectivity drove growth across many industries from healthcare to commerce, agriculture to manufacturing, education to entertainment. And America became a world leader in spectrum policy and technological innovation. As the demand for wireless services continues to skyrocket, the role of FCC auctions in fostering connectivity and spurring innovation is more critical than ever. This 30-year anniversary comes at a pivotal time - the FCC has been without auction authority for over a year, and the nation does not have a plan to make available more full power licensed spectrum in the near term. It's time for policymakers to restore the FCC's spectrum auction authority and commit to more auctions. To meet our mission and to keep up our nation's momentum toward greater connectivity, technological advancement and economic growth, spectrum auctions are imperative. #Spectrum #SpectrumAuction #FCC #Congress

I am excited to announce that Verizon is the US Black Chambers (USBC) 2024 Corporate Partner of the Year!  We are proud to partner with USBC to advance our shared goal of economic empowerment of small businesses by leveraging technology. I’m particularly appreciative of USBC’s support of Verizon’s Small Business Digital Ready program, which provides small business owners with free access to online courses, one-on-one coaching, grant opportunities, and more. The program’s participants best demonstrate its impact. For example, Philadelphia food truck owner V’Esther Goode runs Boomer’s Kitchen and Catering. V’Esther launched this business to pay for her son’s college tuition. She transformed the trajectory of her business by participating in the Small Business Digital Ready program. She told us, “Now I know that this business is something that I can leave a legacy behind. My family will have something to be proud of.”  V’Esther’s story is one of the 350,000 businesses we’ve reached. So much work remains. We aim to reach 1 million small businesses in the next 5 years. We can’t wait to reach that goal with the help of USBC and other incredible partners! Many thanks to VTeamers Monica Hammond and Michele Cober, Esq. for representing Verizon so well at the USBC awards dinner. Ron Busby, Sr. and the entire USBC team, thanks for choosing Verizon for this incredible honor. We look forward to supporting more small businesses nationwide with your support! #SmallBusinesses #SmallBusiness #USBlackChambers #Verizon

Verizon supports the FCC's efforts to apply a new unlocking policy equally to all wireless carriers. This will enable all consumers to make the best choices for themselves for their wireless service. Today, every carrier has a different approach and some (like Verizon) are subject to very different regulatory requirements.     An industry-wide approach should be simple and fair. It needs to promote consumer choice, increase competition, curb handset fraud, and encourage providers to offer subsidies on phones that promote affordability and benefit lower-income consumers.

Yesterday I spoke with Sowmyanarayan Sampath and leaders at Verizon Consumer Group's first Consumer Connection Summit. The room was full of energy, and one thing was crystal clear: this team has a winning mentality and is constantly innovating for our customers. 💪🏻 While there are so many changes and accelerations in technology, society and the economy, I see everyday how the V Team ensures that our products and services give the customers what they need. We're offering more personalization than ever before, more perks and bundles that speak to the uniqueness of each Verizon customer. I always enjoy getting together with the V Team to discuss where we're heading next. ➡️

Wonderful to see my colleague Emilio Gonzalez recognized with the 2024 Leadership Award during League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)’s recent Presidential Dinner. Verizon has supported LULAC for over 20 years. During much of that time, we have benefited from Emilio’s outstanding leadership as he led our partnership with LULAC on numerous strategic initiatives. Thank you for your commitment to Verizon and the Latino community, Emilio. Congratulations to you and this distinguished lineup of awardees! 📷: Gina Brillon, George Lopez, Xochitl Torres SmallAlejandra Y. Castillo, Emilio, and Lupita Infante. #vteam

The Secretary General of the United Nations has given us all a big task, to create: “an inclusive, open, free and secure digital future for all." This starts by ensuring that people everywhere are able to access, afford, and properly use today's digital tools. This morning, I spoke at the OSPOs for Good conference at the United Nations about the ways connectivity and digital inclusion are essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The UN is the one global platform that can bring people from around the world to work together. Cross-sector and cross border collaboration can help us overcome the obstacles of accessibility, affordability and usability that keep people from getting the most benefits from technology. We can work together through the UN to push society forward. #OSPOsForGood2024 #SustainableDevelopment
