We're finishing a week of satellite-supported exploration back in the Amazon rainforest. 🌲🌲 In 2018, our reliable L-band services supported three female explorers - Laura Bingham, Pip Stewart and Ness Knight - to set a new world record as the first team to canoe the length of the Essequibo River in Guyana. Throughout the 10-week expedition, the team relied on our satellite fleet to keep them connected — and safe. As explorer Ash Dykes gets underway with Uncharted: Suriname this week, our own Viasat Service Engineer Wouter van de Giessen is celebrating the success of Camp Growth, high in the Austrian Alps. ⛰️ Wouter founded the adventure camp — which took place for the first time this year — to support personal, physical and mental development for 18-30 year olds. During the camp, Wouter and the team used our satellite phones to stay connected and safe, as they took on on challenges which tested their limits. We're delighted to be supporting explorer Ash Dykes in Uncharted: Suriname — a new world-first record attempt, deep in the Amazon, throughout the greenest country on Earth. 🌳🌳 Suriname has more rainforest per square mile than any other country in the world and vast sections remain unexplored. Ash and his team will attempt to be the first to kayak the Coppename River from source to sea. Not only this, Ash will also attempt to summit the country's two highest mountains in the fastest time. In total, that makes three new world record attempts documented by Guinness World Records. Throughout the 50-day expedition, Ash will be using our highly-reliable satellite services in collaboration with our partner Globalsat Group. Our coverage will allow Ash to keep his followers updated and provide crucial safety communications as the team tackle uncertain conditions in an area home to jaguar, anaconda, caiman, piranha, snakes, and spiders.
