Since our inception in 1874, Vollrath has been a manufacturing company. During our formative years, cookware production accounted for a significant amount of our output. In the mid-1930s, we began producing non-enameled stainless steel kitchen and hospital items with Enduro stainless steel, an alloy of iron, approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel, commonly known as 18-8. Taking advantage of the versatility of stainless steel, we established the OEM department in 1937, which is now known as Vollrath Manufacturing Services.
