See what our expert had to say about the current state of the steel market: - Jason Miller, Sr. Director - Purchasing/Cost Planning Activity in the market remains minimal, with buyers focused on reducing inventory and pretty much everyone taking a wait-and-see approach to the election. Offers were reported as higher this week versus previous weeks, but larger buys are still believed to attract a more favorable price than advertised. Although, those willing to participate are still thought to be a minority. Nucor maintained their Consumer Spot Price @ $730 week-over-week, and scrap is thought to be headed sideways, but some areas have seen bids up slightly. #steelindustry #steelnews #steelmanufacturing #steelproduction #automotive #businessintelligence

See what our expert had to say about the current state of the steel market: - Jason Miller, Sr. Director - Purchasing/Cost Planning Pricing remains stable, with most analysts agreeing that prices are firmly above $700 for hot roll coil. Nucor’s Consumer Spot Price remained unchanged this week @ $730, while Cliff’s maintains its market spot price @ $750. There are many questions in the market about what the port strike will do to demand; it is something to watch as it could significantly impact the economy. Scrap looks to be sideways on primes, and buyers continue to hold out and work their inventories down. More of the same. #steelindustry #steelnews #steelmanufacturing #steelproduction #automotive #businessintelligence

See what our expert had to say about the current state of the steel market: - Jason Miller, Sr. Director - Purchasing/Cost Planning Pricing has been stable to up for the last couple of weeks, but for some reason, pricing stability is almost viewed as a market weakness for most buyers. Analysts seem to lead off every conversation with the best transaction they have heard about; a declining market sells subscriptions, I guess. Hot roll coil prices range from $700 to $750. Nucor moved their Consumer Spot Price up $10 a ton this week to $730. Not every mill or every buyer is on the lower end of the offer. It should be no surprise to anyone that the more tons you buy, the better you can do. This week's big news was out of China as they unleashed a massive plan to kick-start their economy, driving up base metals and the steel futures market. The steel futures market continues to react to one-off news blurbs daily, making it hard to follow. Scrap for October is expected sideways, potentially moving up a bit if dealers have their way. #steelindustry #steelnews #steelmanufacturing #steelproduction #automotive #businessintelligence

See what our expert had to say about the current state of the steel market: - Jason Miller, Sr. Director - Purchasing/Cost Planning The range of hot roll pricing has moved up a bit this week, with Cleveland-Cliffs moving their price up to $750 from their previous $730 offer. Nucor kept their Consumer Spot Price flat week-over-week @ $720. Buyers still feel they can do better if they have more tons to buy, but the discount is a minimum to the advertised price. Lead times remain healthy as we are in the mill outage season, but buyers continue to drive down inventories as they are not aligned on what the fourth quarter will bring. Some mills believe buying will improve in the fourth quarter because buyers have driven down inventories already. Scrap is forecasted to be sideways to up in the next month. #steelindustry #steelnews #steelmanufacturing #steelproduction #automotive #businessintelligence

See what our expert had to say about the current state of the steel market: - Jason Miller, Sr. Director - Purchasing/Cost Planning The range of hot roll pricing remains unchanged week-over-week @ $690-$730, but Nucor did increase their Consumer Spot Price by $10 this week to $720. Lead times remain healthy, with most mills ready to begin their scheduled maintenance. Still, buyers remain concerned with lead times shortening once the maintenance is finished and seasonal demand slowdown hits. Several domestic mills filed a trade case against multiple countries on galvanized products; Canada and Mexico were included in the case, so something to keep an eye on. Scrap for primes looks to be headed sideways after most expected a reduction this month. #steelindustry #steelnews #steelmanufacturing #steelproduction #automotive #businessintelligence

See what our expert had to say about the current state of the steel market: - Jason Miller, Sr. Director - Purchasing/Cost Planning Hot roll prices continue to move up slowly, but week-over-week, we are seeing offers increase from the mills. Cleveland-Cliffs remains on the upper end for offers with hot roll @ $730/st, and we saw Nucor move their Consumer Spot Price up $15 this week to $710/st. Although some buyers still report offers below $700, the bottom continues to increase each week. The story remains the same for everyone you talk to, proceeding cautiously, keeping inventories low, and taking the wait-and-see approach. Demand is listed as ok - it could be better or worse, but there is not a lot of excitement right now. Scrap is something to watch; some expect another step down as buying kicks off in September, even with steel prices trending up. #steelindustry #steelnews #steelmanufacturing #steelproduction #automotive #businessintelligence
