On August 2019, the Business Roundtable (BRT) announced a revised "Statement on the Purpose of a Corporation". It was a significant shift away from its long-standing focus on maximizing shareholder value as the primary objective. Instead, the BRT emphasized a broader commitment to creating value for all stakeholders, including customers, employees, suppliers, communities, and shareholders. On the fifth anniversary of the BRT’s announcement, leaders of the Yale Program on Stakeholder Innovation and Management (Y-SIM) reflected on its impact and future implications. The discussion featured insights from Ravi Dhar and Edward A. Snyder, faculty leaders of Y-SIM; Jon Iwata, Y-SIM practice leader; Alan Murray, Y-SIM executive fellow and former Fortune Media CEO; and John Seifert, chairman of Y-SIM’s board of advisors. Our advisory board member, Joseph Ucuzoglu, Deloitte Global CEO, recently visited Yale School of Management to share valuable insights with first-year MBA students as part of The Executive course's “CEO in Action” speaker series. During our engaging discussion, he shared his perspective on the evolving role of the CEO in today's multi-stakeholder business landscape, the leadership mindset of understanding diverse points of view, and overcoming tradeoff thinking when prioritizing shareholders and other stakeholders–especially by taking a long-term focus. Joe’s insights provided valuable learning opportunities for our students, inspiring thoughtful reflection on the challenges and opportunities facing business leaders today. #Leadership #BusinessInsights #CEOinAction #YaleSOM #YSIM

On April 12 we are hosting a Purpose and Values Academic Camp, convening seven of the top academic thought leaders in stakeholder management to explore how purpose and values embedded within organizational culture and strategy can drive stakeholder engagement, organizational growth, and performance. As we learned from Y-SIM's research with over 100 CEO interviews, today's business leaders are seeking ways to move beyond words and aspirations to identify ways to operationalize purpose and values and to manage this across multiple stakeholders, both inside and outside of the organization. Through this event, we aim to convene some of the brightest minds to explore how new thinking in this area can help address the challenge of moving from idea to action. Speakers at the event will include: R. Edward Freeman, University of Virginia Darden School of Business Raj Sisodia, TECNOLÓGICO DE MONTERREY Colin Mayer, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford CB Bhattacharya, University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business Charles Dhanaraj, Georgia State University - J. Mack Robinson College of Business Rita McGrath, Columbia Business School Claudine Gartenberg, The Wharton School Learn more at the link below: https://lnkd.in/eYZwY2JQ The findings from this event will be incorporated into the Yale SOM curriculum, providing our students with the latest insights on this relevant topic. Furthermore, we will share this information publicly with other institutions to contribute to the advancement of research and knowledge in the field.
