Teen-led storytelling & community mobilization campaign to remove the stigma of mental health & prevent teen suicide.
About us
Zero Reasons Why® is a teen-led storytelling and community mobilization campaign to remove the stigma of mental health and prevent teen suicide. Adult voices have often been at the center of mental health conversations, but through the Zero Reasons Why campaign, teen voice is amplified. We share stories and perspectives to dismantle the stigma of mental health. We believe that reducing that stigma allows us to ask for help without shame or judgment. If we accomplish that, we believe we’ll see teen suicide decrease in our communities. It takes all of us—teens, parents, educators, health professionals and the community—to remove the stigma of mental health, foster community support, improve education and increase awareness to prevent teen suicide. Zero Reasons Why equips teen activists with the tools and public platform they need to drive change through strategic storytelling to build societal empathy. We have seen – and research affirms – that when mental health stigma is removed, teens are more likely to display help-seeking behavior that can save lives. Zero Reasons Why is actively working to address the youth mental health crisis — but we can’t do it without partner support. If you're interested in learning more about how you can support the Campaign, please reach out or visit our website.

We asked our teen leaders: “Who is a trusted adult you would feel comfortable going to for help?” These were their answers. If you hold one of these titles, please know that your presence and support in teens' lives can have a significant impact. Creating safe spaces and being willing to have honest, empathetic conversations about mental health is so important. #zeroreasonswhy #youthmentalhealth

Some good news for youth mental health in Kansas! 👇 Mental Health America recently released its annual State of Mental Health report and Kansas rose in ranking from 50th to 16th in overall youth behavioral health from 2023 to 2024. States with higher rankings show a lower prevalence of mental illness and higher rates of access to care for youth. While there is still room for improvement, this is positive progress worth celebrating! See more key findings from the report in the infographic below. #youthmentalhealth #teenmentalhealth #stateofmentalhealth

Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that with help from Verizon and T-Mobile, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline will start routing calls to 988 based on the caller’s location, rather than by area code. This change will ensure that those seeking help are connected to local crisis centers and resources right away. The best thing you can do if someone opens up to you about experiencing suicidal thoughts is to react with kindness and compassion instead of fear or shame. Save and share these responses! This can be heavy to handle on your own. If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts or ideations, please call a local or national crisis line for additional support. 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or Text 988 Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741-741 #suicidepreventionmonth #suicideprevention #mentalhealthawareness
