Unnao road accident: UP Dy CM emphasizes medical care post fatal collision; investigation to probe cause of the crash

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath condoles the deaths in a road accident in Unnao district, instructs district administration for proper treatment of injured and wishes for their speedy recovery.

Unnao road accident: Eighteen people were killed, and more than 19 suffered injuries when a double-decker sleeper bus rammed into a milk container on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district on Wednesday morning.

UP Dy CM Brajesh Pathak told newswire ANI that all the hospitals near Unnao have been put on ‘alert’. He said that 18 people had lost their lives while 19 were injured and had been sent to Unnao district hospital. The Dy CM said that the injured are being shifted to “higher-level” hospitals. 

Pathak further said that the trauma centre at King George's Medical University (KGMO) is on high alert. He said that he personally inspected the arrangements, adding that most of those injured in the Unnao road accident are from Bihar. The investigation will reveal the causes of the accident, but our priority at this time is to provide medical treatment to those injured, he said.

Unnao District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi said that a private bus bound for Delhi was carrying 57 passengers when it collided with a milk container at 5:15 am. Tragically, 18 people lost their lives, and 19 others sustained injuries. Approximately 20 passengers were unharmed and are being transported to Delhi, he said, 

Of those injured, 6 have been referred to the Trauma Centre, while the remaining will receive treatment at the district hospital. Authorities have ensured ample arrangements for medical care and are taking swift action to address the situation, he told newswire ANI.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of the deceased in the Unnao road accident and instructed the district administration to ensure the injured receive proper treatment. 

Adityanath posted on X (formerly Twitter): “The loss of life in a road accident in Unnao district is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved families. District administration officials have been instructed to reach the spot and speed up the relief work. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed souls and provide a speedy recovery to the injured.”

ANI reported that a double-decker sleeper bus en route from Motihari, Bihar, to Delhi, collided with a milk tanker from behind on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Gadha Village in the Behtamujawar Police Station area. Upon receiving notification of the accident, local police, under the leadership of Circle Officer Arvind Chaurasia from Bangarmau, swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue operations.
