The Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai has issued a yellow alert for the financial capital and Palghar today. In addition to this, an orange alert has been issued in Thane, Sindhudurg, Pune and Kolhapur. Meanwhile, Satara, Raigad and Ratnagiri are on red alert today.
The RMC said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall in city and suburbs. Possibility of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. Occassional gusty winds reaching 60-70 kmph very likely."
The IMD issued a nowcast warning at 7:00 am suggesting “moderate spells of rain" at isolated places during the next 3-4 hours. Palghar, Raigad, Thane, Ratnagiri, Mumbai districts and ghat areas of Pune and Satara will feel the impact of the predicted downpours
In an update shared by BMC, it said that Tansa Lake, one of the lake supplying water to the Mumbai, started overflowing at around 4:16 PM on Thursday. Three gates of the Tansa Dam were opened to release water at a rate of 3,315 cusecs. The full storage capacity of Tansa Lake is 14,508 crore liters.

Mumbai Rains LIVE: : Mumbai's Powai lake is filled to the brim following heavy rains in the region from the last couple of days.
In a sigh of relief amid heavy downpours, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation declared that all the schools and colleges in its area will operate normally on Friday.
Taking to X, the BMC said that the weather and rainfall in Mumbai are normal at present, allowing life in the metropolitan city to proceed smoothly.
"As a result, all schools and colleges in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area will remain open regularly tomorrow, Friday, 26th July 2024. Parents are humbly requested not to believe any other information or rumours regarding school and college holidays and to rely only on official information from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation," it said.

Moderate to heavy rainfall in city and suburbs. Occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph very likely. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 30°C and 25°C."
Mumbai Rains LIVE: Mumbai University on Friday postponed all the exams in the Raigad and Ratnagiri districts amid heavy rain alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Mumbai University's Director of Examination and Evaluation Board, Pooja Roudale announced the postponement.
The Mumbai University in a post on X stated, "In view of the declared holiday due to heavy rains in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts, keeping in mind the interest of the students and to avoid possible inconvenience, all the examinations to be held today (Friday) on 26th July 2024 in the morning and afternoon session only in these districts have been postponed."
Mumbai Rains LIVE: On Thursday, around eleven flights were cancelled and ten diverted after heavy rains reduced visibility significantly. Operations at the Mumbai airport ware halted twice after runway visibility dropped to 300 metres.
An airport source said, "Runway operations were first halted for 11 minutes from 8.32 am to 8.43 am, and then again for 19 minutes from 10.36 am to 10.55 am due to adverse weather and low visibility, which dropped to 300 meters and Runway Visual Range (RVR) at 500 meters with heavy rains," reported PTI.

The Indian Coast Guard on Friday successfully rescued 14 crew members after severe weather conditions caused a JSW maritime vessel with 14 crew on board, to run aground off Raigad's Kolaba Fort yesterday.
According to the Indian Coast Guard release in the early hours of Friday, despite adverse conditions limiting air operations, ICG launched a daring operation to evacuate the crew from the stranded vessel.
"At 1327 h on July 25, Indian Coast Guard ship Sankalp on Patrol and Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, Mumbai, received a distress call from JSW Raigad, a 121.6 m long bulk carrier with 14 Indian crew anchored off Alibag. The vessel reported anchor dragging and loss of control. This was further worsened by flooding in the engine room. In turbulent sea conditions, the vessel ran aground on reefs, 01 Nm from Alibag. Given the extreme sea conditions of the Maharashtra coast and the reefs in the area, airlift was the only option left," ICG stated.

Mumbai Rains LIVE: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday said that the weather and rainfall in Mumbai are normal at present, allowing life in the metropolitan city to proceed smoothly. The BMC further noted, “As a result, all schools and colleges in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area will remain open on a regular basis tomorrow."
The civic authority further requested parents not to believe any other information or rumours regarding school and college holidays and to rely only on official information.

Mumbai Rains LIVE: As many as 11 flights were cancelled and ten diverted to nearby airports from here on Thursday as heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai. Runway operations at the Mumbai airport had to be halted twice as the visibility dropped to 300 meters, even as airlines issued advisories to passengers to arrive early at the airport in view of traffic congestion and water-logging in parts of the metropolis.
Four major rivers in Maharashtra are reportedly flowing above the danger mark amid torrential rainfall in the coastal state. Data from the state irrigation department indicates that the Kundalika River has risen 0.55 metres above the danger mark. Meanwhile the Amba Rier at Nagothane Bandhara has exceeded its danger mark by at least 1.4 metres.

Mumbai Rains LIVE: One person died in a rain-related incident, while two individuals were feared trapped after a landslide hit three bungalows in Lavasa city in Pune district on Thursday.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: Two people are feared dead after they entered the Barvi Dam in Thane district on Thursday amid heavy rainfall. Ganesh Chindu Kene (35) of Dongarnhave, and Dyaneshwar Budhaji Gondhali (35) of Shastri Nagar in Dudhalepada may have been swept away and a search operation is underway at the site. It is not clear how they got into the dam amid such heavy rain.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: The Central Railways CPRO said that trains have decreased speed amid heavy rainfall in the MMR.
“Due to heavy rain, loco pilots have to decrease the speed as the visibility decreases due to wind and rain and it affects the punctuality... Municipal corporation, KDMC and MCGA have warned people not to come out but only in an emergency situation as there was a red alert in place... We are monitoring the situation and we will take steps for safety measures as needed at times," assured Swapnil Dhanraj Nila.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: Heavy rainfall led to widespread flooding and necessitated rescue operations in Ambernath and some other areas of Thane district on Thursday.
In Ambernath, 18 elderly residents of Sahavas old age home were relocated to upper floors at another old age home in Maher. Similarly, 30 children and staff from Satkarma ashram were rescued and shifted to Pragati Andha Vidyalaya. As many as 200 persons were evacuated to BSUP building. In Kalyan, 40 families, comprising 156 persons, were relocated as a precautionary measure.

According to Raigad Police, "Traffic is stopped at Tamhini Ghat in the Raigad-Pune route due to a landslide. Traffic will be stopped for the next few hours until the debris is cleared."
Mumbai Rains LIVE: Central Railway services faced significant disruptions due to rain-induced waterlogging despite installing high-capacity pumps in low-lying areas, inconveniencing thousands of passengers as local trains stopped on tracks for hours.
Many out-station trains on their way to Mumbai also remained stranded.
After resuming services earlier in the day, Harbour line services of Central Railway were suspended again on a stretch on Monday night due to waterlogging on the tracks.
Flight services at the Mumbai airport were severely impacted due to low visibility after heavy rains, leading to runway operations being shut for over an hour and approximately 50 flights being cancelled.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: The MSRTC has suspended suspends services on several Thane routes amid incessant rainfall. An official release by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation said it is suspending bus services on at least a dozen routes in Thane district — including five routes in Murbad, as well as those serviced by Wada, Thane, Kalyan and Vithalwadi depots. Bridges in Kishore, Pali, Badlapur, Eranjad, Chikla, Shivdholi, Mhasa are under water, while a tree fell on the road in Sakhra.

Mumbai Rains LIVE: At least four people died in rain-related incidents on Thursday, while several houses and residential societies in low-lying areas in the city were inundated. NDRF and Army teams have been deployed for rescue efforts. Nearly 400 people were evacuated by Thursday afternoon.

Mumbai Rains LIVE:A low-level bridge over a stream was washed away amid heavy rains in Mahad MIDC area of Raigad district on Thursday. The bridge connected Kasbe Shivthar and Samarth Shivthar villages. It was not used for vehicular movement, but locals used it to reach their fields in Samarth Shivthar.
