Axiom is one of three firms in the test using unbranded bladders. When compared to the branded water bags, it is obvious the quality is lower. Despite this there are some nice touches. A small plug situated above the small screw-top filler cap allows the bag to drain totally when inverted after cleaning: something other companies would do well to note. Other than small slots for slotting the fixing Velcro to, there’s nothing to write home about. The pull-on/push-off bite valve is adequate.
Axiom claims a carrying capacity of 2.5 litres, but other than stuffing your gear into the reservoir cavity and the bungee attachments, there is no other way for it to haul gear. Granted, the bungees are long and wide, but other than a bulky jacket, you’ll struggle to use the 2.5 litres.
In use, the wide base to the straps makes the bag comfortable to use, despite the narrow straps, although the chest strap can twist the thin straps if cinched too tight. O-rings on the straps keep the hose in check, but things need plenty of fettling before we enter the age of Aquarius.
