The wait is over. After being crowned T20 World Cup winners on June 29, the Indian cricketers are back home. There was a delay due to poor weather in the West Indies but finally Rohit Sharma’s Men in Blue landed in the nation’s capital.

This was India’s first T20 World Cup after 17 years. They had won the first one in 2007. It was also our first ICC title since 2013. India now have won four World Cups overall and their total ICC haul is a total of six titles. For Rohit, it was his first ICC title as skipper and a fitting end to a glorious T20 career. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja too called time on their T20I careers.

Needless to say, fans could not keep calm. Who could blame them? The wait had been long and the scars of the 2023 ODI World Cup final loss to Australia were still fresh when the tournament began. The old wounds will have healed to some extent.

Social media was buzzing as fans went online to welcome their heroes. Team India has made the nation proud by winning an epic final and also not losing a single game in the competition. The supporters were delirious with joy. Here’s what they had to say:

The players too got into the groove. Kohli was seen reacting in awe to the welcome while Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav brought out their dance moves. It is a joyous occasion and the players are enjoying it as much as the fans.

The Indian players will get a well-deserved break. In fact, most of the squad members have not been picked for the T20I series in Zimbabwe that begins on July 6. Also, while the likes of Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja will no longer play the shortest format for India, they will still be available for Tests and ODIs. So let’s not say bye all at once.
