This mod lowers all heat producers in the game to make screamers spawn roughly 50% less often than vanilla.
If you feel the mod needs further tweaking, please let me know. I like Screamers in the game, but I think they appear too often in vanilla so they stop feeling special. I want to keep Screamers a novelty, so they're still fun.
Installation
If you have never installed a Mod before, start here: How to add Mods to your 7D2D game
There are three options for installation, pick one.
1. Use the Vortex Mod Manager to install just this mod for you. The Vortex application will run it for you, but you have to launch the game from Vortex. I generally recommend this option for most users. Vortex is working fine for me playing with POIs and mods for 7D2D on 1.0. I have had no issues, and it makes it easier for users to update/disable mods. If you have issues with Vortex, lets troubleshoot them together.
2. If you are looking for a full package Quality of Life Vanilla+ experience, I give you my own curated Collection (ModPack) for 7D2D. It uses the Vortex Mod Manager to install my POIs, this mod, plus some of the best stable QoL mods currently available on Nexus for 7 days to die. Better 7D2D by FNS
3. Manual Installation:
(for old school modders who like more control)
Download the .zip file
Place the .zip file into your Mods folder and unzip the contents.
Notice 1: This mod is only needed on the server side.
Notice 2: You can keep EAC enabled for this mod by itself... if you use other mods, they may need EAC to be disabled.
Notice 3: This mod is compatible with Danzo's Screamer Alert Mod. It's probably not compatible with other mods that effect heat/sound settings in the blocks.xml or sounds.xml files.
For transparency:
My mod was inspired by a mod called "Reduce Heatmap" by Mod Author Evilmirth. I contacted him to see if he was willing to upload my version as a variant on his mod page, but he did not reply to my query. His mod reduces all Heatmap sources beyond 90% which made Screamers appear too infrequently. I altered his xml to make Screamers appear more often than his mod, but still far less than vanilla. If/when Evilmirth contacts me about this mod variant, I will shut down my mod and direct users to download his.
His original work can be found here: Reduce Heatmap
