About this mod

Enthrall Spell Rebalanced to make it behave more like in DnD 5e.

What is this?
Very small mod that changes the behavior of the spell Enthrall. Now it's AoE and lowers the affected characters' Perception which in turn makes Stealth and Sleight of Hand checks easier for anyone affected.

Why? The spell is outright useless, even with this change.
The vanilla description says "Reduce a creature's peripheral vision and make it look at you." at the cost of a Lv2 Spell Slot. Big whoop, one can just walk behind an NPC and they generally don't turn around, one can even activate turn based mode and have all the time in the world to do whatever their heart desires. Why would I burn a plump Lv2 Spell Slot early game for what is basically nothing, and why would I bother having it later in the game when at that point, I probably have myriad of better and more useful alternatives? We both know Enthrall isn't on any "top 10 underutilized spells" because this spell basically does nothing... OR DOES IT?

Extensive testing by yours truly have uncovered
an actual use-case for the vanilla version of this spell, believe it or not. It's actually pretty good, and my mod only serves to highlight it's usefulness while buffing it a little bit. It's not really a buff, it actually changes it to make it relatively the same as it is in 5e.

How do you use Enthrall? (This is all Vanilla behavior, my mod doesn't change any of this)
If you've ever stolen anything in BG3, you know that even if you don't get caught stealing, NPCs are smart enough to figure out something's missing. When they do this, they will initiate an investigation, usually takes 1 turn/6 real-time seconds, once this is over, they spend 2~4 turns walking around looking for the culprit (you), and if they see you or any of your party members, they will begin questioning, and depending on the crime committed and your involvement, you get a wide array of options to get out of it. Even after failing to find a culprit, they will be suspicious of you and will not take you out of their sights as long as they can help it.

This is where Enthrall shines. At a first glance, you might think you should cast this to force an NPC to look some other way while another party member robs them blind, then just run away while they investigate. This is an adequate use, but this is easily outshined by just having a party member talk to the NPC and not progressing the conversation, or casting Fog Cloud (Lv1 Spell to boot) or any of the other spells that obscure vision.

The ADVANCED use for Enthrall is to realize that an Enthralled NPC CANNOT INITIATE AN INVESTIGATION. If they can't investigate, they can't question you, they can't be suspicious and they can't alert the guards.

There are two ways you can effectively Enthrall an NPC to essentially give them amnesia:
  • If you want to Pickpocket an NPC without them getting suspicious and starting an investigation, all you gotta do is make sure they're Enthralled while you run their pockets. As long as every Pickpocket attempt is a success and the NPC notices that they've been Pickpocketed while Enthralled (Usually by shouting "I've been robbed" or something similar), the NPC will fail to start an Investigation, will not question any party members, and when Enthrall ends, they'll go about their business as if nothing happened. Not only that, they won't be suspicious of you and you can do this all over again with basically no repercussions.
  • If you want to Steal an item off the floor/on a surface that belongs to an NPC (Marked in red), all you gotta do is wait until they notice something's missing (Usually happens when their cone of vision overlaps where the item used to be) and shout "I've been robbed!" or something similar, this is your cue to Enthrall. The timing is a little bit tricky, but as long as you Enthrall the NPC while they're either walking to or standing around looking where the item used to be, the NPC will cancel the investigation, no questioning will occur, the NPC will not go get guards, and you get to keep the item with no repercussions.

Note: Enthrall doesn't change the behavior of NPCs if you fail a pickpocket attempt or get spotted by someone else.

What does your mod change, then?
It makes the spell an AoE of 18m/60ft, and lowers the affected characters' perception by 5, which in turn makes it easier to sneak and steal from said NPCs. Now you can captivate a crowd and pickpocket them all in a row without having to run away for every target to avoid getting caught. Not only that, but since the spell is now AoE and has way better range, targeting a running NPC gunning for you is easier and more reliable.

This isn't a Fighter Mod
That isn't a question.
