About this mod

Gives the ability to play as a Vampire with Dark Urge, Dark Urge Astarion or Custom Character. In addition, you can infect others with vampirism as the Main Character with that background. Those bitten will get Bloodless and it will go away on Long Rest, unless they bite someone to become a Full Vampire though they will take sun damage.

If you are having an issue with the powers in the mod working when you bite someone; it may be due to to the mod load order.

If you want to play a different character as the Dark Urge instead of Astarion you can use my Dark Urge All Origins and download the character you want to be the Dark Urge (Make sure to put this mod before the Dark Urge All Origins mod in the load order.
Note that if you choose an orgin character with Dark Urge... you will be playing both the Origin story and the Dark Urge story at the same time with that character.

You will have the contagion of Vampirism to spread to others in the party and standard Vampire Abilities. Also suggest using ImprovedUI with this mod to give the scrolling ability in Backgrounds on the character creation. It is not required for this mod however.

You can also choose to play Astarion from the beginning as a DARK URGE Character (Or one of the other Origin Characters with adding in the Dark Urge All Origins Mod) He has the dialogs for both the Dark Urge character and Astarion in the game. The Dark Urge has the ability to choose their Background, as it is unlocked. Have Haunted and Trickster Hedonist (Vampire) available as backgrounds to choose when starting your character and playthrough.

Bite from your vampire character inflicts BLOODLESS, as normal with the bite in game, but also gives the ability of VAMPIRE BITE. With this ability being tied to BLOODLESS: it will go away on a long rest as normal in the game.. unless you decide to embrace your darker tendencies and feed (Using VAMPIRE BITE). Upon feeding you become a full vampire with the ability to permanently be a vampire (unless you die and have to be resurrected). 

Also, upon feeding you will gain additional vampire powers from being fed and powers of the Main/Master vampire can strengthen when standing in darkness or shadows.


Abilities Gained from Bloodless when Bitten (Removed on long rest):

Vampire Bite: Have the ability to feed on blood with VAMPIRE BITE to gain the HAPPY effect and become a "Full" Vampire if you feed while BLOODLESS.

If you never feed with the VAMPIRE BITE while BLOODLESS. You don't become a vampire, so BLOODLESS will removed on long rest like normal with no long-term effect. This way Astarion can bite people in party in camp cut scenes (or for normal feeding) and no one becomes a vampire automatically (Only when they feed while BLOODLESS).

Vampire Weaknesses:
***Fire Damage in Sunlight doesn't impact character created with the Trickster Hedonist background only those who are changed by being bitten later***

- Vulnerable to Radiant Damage
- Fire Damage 1+Level/Turn while in Sunlight (and not Fed with Happy Status) 
*** Note: This fire damage doesn't activate when in camp or with Astarion Happy Status. So pays to be a well fed vampire! ***


Base Abilities:

*** Do be aware that the Bloodless effect and other powers can impact NPCs as well so be careful who you feed on in battle or you may find yourself in a fight with a full vampire as well***

Tag of Vampire: 
This is given permanently upon first feeding from when they have BLOODLESS. Sets them as TAG VAMPIRE , though not shown on character window (Removed on long rest if they didn't feed while bloodless by using their bite and thus resisting the temptation to become a full vampire)

- Gained At Level 1
- Vampire Bite - Vampire Bite Damage now at (1d6+Level of Piercing and 1d6+Level of healing at the same time), Gain the HAPPY effect from being fed.
- Transform to Mist - The Character can transform into MIST FORM.
- Transform to Bat - Can change into a BAT FORM.
- Resistant to Necrotic Damage - Takes half damage from Necrotic Damage
- Slashing Resistant - Takes half damage from Slashing Damage
- Piercing Resistant - Takes half damage from Piercing Damage
- Bludgeoning Resistant - Takes half damage from Bludgeoning Damage
- DarkVision at 12 Range
- Proficiency Stealth - Roll 2 dice and take the highest of them for Stealth Checks
- Proficiency Perception - Roll 2 dice and take the highest of them for Proficiency Checks
- Proficiency Musical Instrument
- Immune to Blindness - Immue to blindness spells and effects
- Immune to Charmed - Immune to charmed spells and effects
- Ignore Surface Cover (Fog Cloud) - Ignore blindness from Fog Clouds
- Ignore Surface Cover (Darkness) - ignore blindness from Darkness spells
- Create Undead - Create one Zombie or Skeleton from a corpse
- Movement Increase of 3 - Gain +3 to movement speed

- Mask of Many Faces - Shapechange (Into the main races that are playable)

- Gained At Level 3
- Speak with the Dead - Speak with dead corpse and ask up to 5 questions

- Gained At Level 4
- Darkness Spell - Cast Darkness spell like Drow race skill

- Summon Wolf Companion - Summon a single greater wolf companion

- Necromancy of Thay Undead Summoning (in place of Create Undead) - Summon 5 undead

- Gained At Level 7
- Bonus of +3 Piercing Damage - gain +3 to Piercing damage attacks
- Bonus of +3 Slashing Damage - gain +3 to Slashing damage attacks
- Darkvision Increased to 24 Range - Darkvision improved to a range of 24

- Control Undead (One Target Equal to Character Level or Less)
- Movement Increase Improved to 7 (Instead of 3) - Gain +7 to movement speed

- Vampire Bite Damage Doubled (From 1d6 to 2d6)

- Regenerate 1+Level HP/Turn - Can also bring character back from being downed

To install:

Place the mod file called AstarionVampire.pak in the folder C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mod ***Make sure to create the Mod folder here as the new update doesn't have the folder anymore***
From there adjust the modsettings.lsx file with the mod settings below in this location: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public

May need to place the mod last in the mod order.

***If you have other mods: Add the large/bolded sections below to the modsettings.lsx file as shown below and don't replace your whole file with the entire entry below..

Dark Urge All Origins: (Updated Version of my Dark Urge Mod from 22 Sept 2023)

This mod gives the additional Dark Urge background for the origin character. So now you can play as the Origin storyline (Quest) and the Dark Urge Origin (Quest) on Astarion, Laezel, Wyll, Shadowheart, Gale or Karlach at the same time on one character.

Powers of the Shadows: (Updated Version of my Play as a Shade mod from 22 Nov 2023)

Shades are (or were) normal humans, elves, etc... who through arcane magic merged with the shadow stuff of the Plane of Shadows. While they still appear as their original species and retain their abilities, they have grown in power by merging with the Plane of Shadows.

This merger with the Plane of Shadows has changed their essence, so that they are essentially undying, unless they meet with an unfortunate accident or are killed. Diseases have no effect upon them, and they can regenerate 1 hp/round.

Because of your heritage being a creature of the Plane of Shadows, you do not gain inspiration from this background. You are a creature made of the void and thus are not inspired by anything in this world.

Dark Urge Darkness: (New Mod for the Dark Urge Storyline)

This mod is made to give the Dark Urge Origin character a few more abilities make the gameplay more interesting and that increase in power as the character levels. They gain the ability to cast Darkness each combat, Immune to Blindness from Darkness, can Shadow Teleport, have Darkvision (24) and Necrotic Damage with weapon and Unarmed (1 + Level)

thanks! I like to think durge is a little more powerful than the others even with the tadpole nerfing their abilities so this is great! i don't mind the tad overbalance for durge at least lmfao - jessmeows (March 22, 2024)


Demi-God Improved: (Updated Version of my Demi-God Mod from Sept 29, 2023)

This mod is a combination of the Demi-God Mod and Play as a Full Vampire and Play as Shade mod. Characters can start as a vampire and if they bite someone they can become a vampire if they feed while Bloodless,

Wow... It's great to play as a vampire, using the shadows and avoiding the sun add an interesting flavor to the game. I've been playing for a few hours (as a vampire) and everything seems to be working fine. Great mod, thank you very much! - Danioken (Feb 25, 2024)


Play as a Hulk with Barbarian Rage: (Updated Version of my Hulk Out Mod from 18 Oct 2023)

This mod gives any Barbarian the ability to become the a Hulk or She Hulk when they use Rage in combat. This only impacts characters that have Rage ability. "Play as She-Hulk" for female transformation and "Play as Hulk" for male transformation.
