I’ve always wanted to try and mod my own games, mostly to tweak things to my personal preference. However, I'm far from being a programmer (my skills are more in the realm of creative directing, haha) so I never did... until now! Then, I stumbled upon AstralSprout's Custom Dye Mod Guide and one thing led to another...
... and thus, "Once Upon A Dye" came to be!
As of right now, there aren't that many dyes; I made this mostly to experiment with some of my favorite color palettes inspired by popular animated films (I've dropped a hint in each dye as to which ones those are), while also trying to get more comfortable with programming in general.
Since this is my FIRST EVER MOD (whoohoo!), any constructive suggestions are more than welcome.
(NOTE: These dyes lean more toward specific color schemes rather than trying to blend in with the world of Baldur’s Gate, but I did try my best to not make the colors too gaudy.)
Here are the inspirations for each dye if you were curious...
"Briar Rose" = Aurora's outdoor palette from Sleeping Beauty
"Fairest One" = Snow White's palette
"Fitzherbert" = Flynn's palette from Tangled
"Honour" = Mulan's palette from the finale
"Malevolence" = Maleficent palette Sleeping Beauty
"Manly Urges" = Mulan's soldier palette
"Outcast" = Esmeralda 's main palette from The Hunchback of Notre Dame
"Provincial" = Belle's town palette in Beauty & the Beast
"Reflection" = Mulan's matchmaking palette
"True Love" = Anna's main palette in Frozen
The pack of dyes are sold at the following vendors:
ACT 1
ACT 2
ACT 3
(OPTIONAL) There is a version of my mod available for download that adds the dyes to the vendors previously listed AND to the Tutorial Chest, which you can summon mid-game using this mod.
- Add more dyes
Add pack of dyes to more vendors- Add option to make dyes consumable
- Make nicer reference photos for dyes
Add compatability for Aetherpoint and Volitio's AV Item Shipment Framework
- Choose one of the files to manually download; do not install both!
- Open BG3 Mod Manager (you can download it here if you don't already have it).
- Drag and drop the .zip file into BG3MM and it will automatically import over. You can also unzip the file in a different location, if you prefer, then drag and drop the .pak into the app as well.
- Go to "File" at the top left corner and select "Save Order". Then go to "File" again and choose "Export Order to Game".
- That's it! The mod should now appear in you game.
- NOTE: This might also work with Vortex... however, I'm not familiar with it. This mod has only been tested with BG3MM so use Vortex at your own risk.
- Astral Sprout, again, for writing the Custom Dye Mod Guide that I followed
- Padme4000 for providing the original template for custom dyes that I used as a jumping-off point
- Aetherpoint for assisting with AV Item Shipment Framework compatibility
- Norbyte for creating the LSLib tool
- ShinyHobo for creating the BG3 Modder's Multitool
- LaughingLeader for the wonderful BG3 Mod Manager
- AnteMaxx and pooteeweet, whose outfits from Basket Full of Equipment and Extra Gear are featured in my reference photos
- Otis_Inf, who created the BG3 photomode allowed me to take better screencaps
