As of the 1.0 version of this mod:
Automail only works for male characters. The female version will come at a later date, since it requires me to remodel the arm to fit the female NPC.
There is a bandage wrap around the wrist of the armor, due to technical constraints. For some reason, hiding the arm hides everything exceptfor the skin at the wrist, so the only way to fix this is to cover it up with something. Hopefully this can be fixed in the future.
If you point these issues out to me as bugs in the comments or bugs section, I will point and laugh.
Automail is an invention from the world of Fullmetal Alchemist. Originally intended to be a motorized combat armor powered by the electrical impulses from the nerves of the body, automail quickly found a new use as complex prosthetics.
For those who have lost a limb, automail comes in to replace what was lost. Designs vary based on the designer of the automail, but most designs feature a metal casing around the complex mechanisms held within, keeping the relative shape and fluid movement of a real arm or leg.
Though a fitting replacement for missing limbs, it comes with its own set of problems. Despite the extra durability provided by a metal arm, it must be regularly maintained by an experienced mechanic, as it is prone to breaking with prolonged usage.
Such technology has been brought to the Eradien lands from the west. Experienced forgemasters, in cooperation with the forgein mechanics, have produced the first round of automail prototypes. Disabled soldiers may now continue to serve, with the addition of left and right arm and forearm automail in the Baron's shop.
Currently, both the left and right arms and forearms have automail that can either be purchased in Baron's shop or spawned in the Plate section of the spawn book. In addition to this, there are currently two versions of the automail: armored and unarmored.
The unarmored arm has the ability to wear both wrist and shoulder armor over the top of the arm, letting you customize as you wish.
The armored arm, while lacking the ability to wear wrist armor, features a more classic armored design that provides bulkier plating for better protection.
For the fully armored arms, they take up the shirt slot, meaning most armor can be worn in addition with the arm, with the exception of any armors that take up the shirt slot.
As for the forearm versions, these only take up the forearms and thus do not take up the shirt slot, allowing for more customization.
Due to the technical limitations of B&S, the only way to hide the arm to replace it with automail is to hide both arms, and thus I've had to replace the missing arms with bandages. Hopefully a fix can be found in the future, but for now this is the best that can be done.

I'm currently working on freshening up my old mods for updating to 1.0, such as the new Reforged Medieval Armory.
There is a small gap of open space between the thumb and the hand. This will be fixed in a future update.
There is a bandage covering the wrist of all arms. Due to technical limitations of the armor system, hiding the arms for automail hides everything except for a patch of skin on the wrist, of which the only way to fix is to hide it with clothing.
As was mentioned before, hiding parts of the arms hide it on both arms, meaning the missing arms have been replaced with bandages.
The armor only currently works for males, as the female version has not yet been made. This will come in a future update.
There is a lack of the ability to wear both left and right arms at the same time, so a future update will include dual arms for those who wish to replace both arms.
The arms can only block attacks with armor detection turned on, as the arms currently function as plate armor.
