This mod includes three new workshop objects: A Minutemen Campfire, Minutemen Bunks, and a Minutemen Watchtower. These objects can be found in your workshop menu under the Defense->Guard Posts category, and are limited to one of each per settlement. You can unlock the objects by completing Minutemen quests, more specifically by becoming general, completing Taking Independence, and completing Old Guns.

The workshop objects all grant a significant amount of defense to your settlements, and when placed a minutemen patrol will spawn nearby and wander into your settlement, if a patrol is not already present. The patrol will then live in and protect your settlement indefinitely, and will actively use all three of the workshop objects as available.

Notably, these spawned patrols will go away if you remove all three workshop settlements and leave the area. Similarly, they will also go away if you capture the settlement for Nuka World raiders, or turn the settlement into raider vassals. Raider settlements and their vassals also get no defense out of the workshop objects, since the Minutemen are no longer protecting your settlement.

Are the towers meant to be purely decorative? I mean, apart from providing a defense bonus and attracting patrols. I couldn't climb the stairs to the top without using noclip.

No, they should have collision and be buildable inside. If they're not, something has gone wrong.

They do have collision, it's just that the stairs and platforms are configured in such a way that my character couldn't navigate to the top. I haven't checked to see if the NPC Minutemen or settlers managed to get up there; they hadn't done so in the short while I stayed at the settlement after building the tower but perhaps they'll be up there when I return.

That's interesting. Just out of curiosity, have you tried moving the tower at all after building it? And if so, how did you move it?

I think I adjusted it's position after dropping it; it was hard to see exactly how it was sitting on the terrain when originally placing it. I probably used a combination of normal workshop item movement and the fine adjustments provided by Place Everywhere.

You know what, that might be it. Can you try picking it up in workshop mode to move it, and then canceling the movement to put it back in place? I'm adding a note right now for the next version, to make sure I reset the attached utility objects whenever the player exits workshop mode.

Edit: For context, the tower has several invisible objects attached to it. Most of them are animation markers for minutemen to use when they wander up to the top, but one of them is an extra physics object that was needed so that you can properly build things on and inside the tower.

These objects get replaced any time you move the tower in workshop mode, but I forgot to account for using a mod like place anywhere to fine tune the placement. If you try to pick up the tower, the attached objects are removed to prevent them from interfering with placement. They will be re-attached when you cancel the movement or place the tower somewhere else.

That was exactly the problem. Selecting it and immediately setting it down again fixed the problem and I was able to climb to the top without difficulty. It did take Nick Valentine a while to follow me up, but he got there eventually.

I recently installed the You And What Army 2 mod on an endgame save where I already blew up the Institute with the Minutemen. All Minutemen quests such as retaking the castle, defending it, old guns, etc have already been completed before I installed the mod. I can't find the guard towers though in my build menu, even if I manually go to the workbench

The guard towers are supposed to be in Defense->Guard Posts, and the specific conditions on them are that Old Guns is complete, that the settlement does not already have one of the towers, and that the settlement is not a raider settlement or their vassal.

Please note that some mods, such as Sim Settlements 2, use the raider settlement flag for custom settlement types like their Outposts. Similarly, a mod that significantly rearranges the workshop menu may require a patch to make these objects show up properly.

The settlement I am trying to build the outpost on is Starlight Drive-in. The settlement has no settlers in it, so I'm not sure if that's having an impact on it.

      I have several mods that could POTENTIALLY be interfering with yours, but I'm not entirely sure. The following mods, are;
      Unofficial Fallout 4 patch
Workshop framework (I have this disabled though)
      Settlement Management Software
      Minutemen Morale pack
      Minutemen Settlement Guards

I'll go about disabling a few of them to see if it fixes it, because as of right now the watchtowers are still not appearing in the Guard post section.

      EDIT:

Just came back from testing, I disabled the Minutemen Morale Pack, Minutemen Settlement Guards, and Settlement Management Software mods to try and build the outposts, and they still do not show up in the Defense > Guard Post menu. I'm beginning to think this could be because the relevant quests that are pre required to build these items, are already completed prior to installation of the mod.

      EDIT 2:

Found the issue. User error on my part, I had forgot to enable it on Vortex ¯\_༼ •́ ͜ʖ •̀ ༽_/¯

Workshop Framework and the unofficial patch are not going to cause any issues. As best I'm aware, the others shouldn't either. The specific requirements on the watchtower are:

      • Min03 (aka the quest Old Guns) is marked as completed. You can verify this using "sqv Min03" in console. It doesn't matter when you completed it, so long as the quest is marked complete.
      • The settlement you are in does not already have a watchtower
      • The settlement you are in has the "LocTypeWorkshopSettlement" keyword on its location. (This is true by default for all Bethesda-made settlements)
      • The settlement you are in does not have the "WorkshopType02" keyword on its workbench. You can easily verify this by looking at your map - the settlement icon will be a skull with a chain around it if that keyword is on the workbench.

Were you able to build the other two objects in Starlight Drive-in?

That would certainly do it. Some of my most frustrating moments when debugging my mods come from just before I realize I forgot to enable whatever patch I just built for testing purposes.

Are you using a mod that improves workshop menu performance? A lot of those can cause this issue. Try opening the workshop using the workbench.

Will the patrol only spawn if you place all three objects or will one suffice? Just thinking about space constraints in certain areas, though I will be using Neheer's mod to expand the borders. Ooh, will this work on the Island or in the Nuka-World settlements as well? Be nice to have a proper presence beyond the Commonwealth proper.

You only need one workshop object to spawn the patrol, but the Minutemen in the patrol will interact with any of the YAWA2 workshop objects you've built in the settlement.

Good to know. What about working outside the Commonwealth proper?

It will work the same inside and outside the commonwealth. You're the general, after all. If you're building something for the minutemen, the minutemen will follow your lead.

Now that's what I'm talking about! And this doesn't touch their LL's, right? Only I'm going to use Organized Militia to actually make sure everyone's properly dressed and musketed.

I don't make any changes to leveled lists at all. Instead I use the existing leveled lists used by the base game, to ensure that people can use the Minutemen inventory/NPC overhaul of their choice.
