STRAC Hats converts the Field Scribe Hat, Gray Knit Cap, and Military Cap to be high-speed, low-drag headwear.  It also adds 36 variants of the Military Cap, with distinctive flashes and colors, supporting the major factions from Fallout 4, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Fallout 76. Craft them all at the chem station. All hats support both male and female characters.

Includes factional berets for the Minutemen, BOS, Institute, Railroad, Atom Cats, Gunners, Raiders (including the Pack, Operators, and Disciples), NCR Rangers, Ceasar's Legion, Reilly's Rangers, Talon Company, Enclave, Responders, Firebreathers, Free States, US and Chinese Armies. There are also berets with Vault-Tec, Nuka-Cola, Celtic, Pirate, and, yes, Sweetroll themes.

The Field Scribe Hat and the Gray Knit Cap models are based on my idea of how they should have always been. Based on your feedback about bald NPCs, they no longer replace their vanilla counterparts in-game (except on Scribe Haylen, who has hair). Instead, you can craft them and put them on whomever you like.

The Military Cap (Cap?  It’s a beret) has a refined mesh to support factional flashes.  In version 3.0, there are now a lot of these. I used scripts to inject some of them into leveled lists, so you will find them on some NPCs and in a few containers.  I also replaced Ronnie’s beret with a flashed one.  All of the vanilla Military Caps now use my mesh but don’t have flashes.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Download and install the main file with Vortex.

Use the chem station's STRAC Hats menu to craft the hats.  To craft the scribe hat and knit cap, you'll need a vanilla one as the ingredient. The berets require one cloth.  Everything requires Armorer Level I to craft.  Everything can be modified at the Armor workbench to add linings and ballistic weave (if you have the right perks).

RELEASE NOTES:

Does not require any DLC, but is compatible with all of them.

No other mods required. I have used custom keywords to add [Hat] tags to the hats' inventory names so they will work with sorting mods and DEF_UI iconlibs without requiring any particular mod. My naming format may not exactly match your sorting mod, but I think it is a good compromise solution for everyone while avoiding dependencies on other mods.

STRAC Hats will conflict with any mod that changes Ronnie’s outfit or Scribe Haylen's outfit, and the STRAC version may not show up on Ronnie or Haylen if you’ve already met them.

I've tested for hair clipping, but it may still occur if you use mods that add new hairstyles.

“So okay, I give up, what does ‘STRAC’ mean?”

According to Wiktionary’s glossary of military slang, STRAC is US Army slang for “a well organized, well turned-out soldier, (pressed uniform, polished brass and shined boots).” A proud, competent trooper who can be depended on for good performance in any circumstance.

PERMISSIONS:

You may never sell any of my assets, however modified, ever.  You may not republish or reuse any of my assets in another mod without permission.  PM me for permission.  If I don't respond within 30 days, then you may assume that I approve.  Other authors using STRAC Hats assets:
Zactan1234 uses my beret models, but spices them up with a variety of colors and Minutemen insignia in Militarized Minutemen  - Uniforms, Patches and Insignia Add-on.

THANKS:

- To Bethesda for another magnificent game.
- To Ousnius for Outfit Studio, and to the developers of Blender and NifSkope.  These three tools enabled me to take vanilla meshes and modify them into what you see here.
- To jonwd7 for the B.A.E. - Bethesda Archive Extractor that opened up Bethesda's files for me.
- To a_blind_man for his Leveled List Injection Toolbox, which allowed me to put berets in NPC inventories without conflicting with other mods.
