UPDATE 16 DECEMBER 2018: *FIXED*:
Fixed the navmesh problem that was causing NPCs to not appear in the houses unless you Wait/Sleep or travel first.  Settlers and companions will now enter the houses autonomously.  A very big THANK YOU to damanding for extremely helpful advice on how to fix the issue!  Please download V1.1 to replace the original version.  If you already have the houses installed in your game, when you delete the old mod and install the new version the houses will still be where you put them but now with the fixed navigation working.

This is a set of colourful little prefab shacks/cabins in Mid-Century Modern/Atomic style. They consist of two new meshes and six colour combinations, with a 'slightly dirty' overlay but mostly clean/undamaged-looking.  (I think of them as pre-war prefab sets that were discovered intact in a warehouse somewhere and put to good use.)

The houses come in two versions: flat sloped roof and zig-zag roof, and each house has a different colour scheme.

They are cloned from the default wooden Small Shack, using its floor and boundaries. They appear near it in the Workshop catalogue under Structures/Wood/Prefabs. Each house is crafted from 30 wood, 20 steel and 5 glass.

These mini-houses all come with glass windows plus a little open 'terrace' area in the rear left corner, and can be either fitted with a door or left doorless. You can use any default door, but as they're all pretty dirty, this mod also includes a set of four clean metal-framed doors.

In the below pic from Spectacle Island, you can see the four doors, which come in grey, blue, white and pink. The doors are crafted from 3 steel and 1 glass, and are found near the default metal doors in the Workshop catalogue. They are a recolour of the default metal door but with the metal meshed effect alpha-edited out so that they look like they have clear glass panes instead. So, you can make Spectacle Island look like a beach resort, with a row of colourful beach cabins.

They also look cute arranged like a courtyard bungalow complex around the 'pool' at Starlight Drive-In:

Although tiny, they can be furnished comfortably.   Here's an example of making a little home for yourself for staying overnight at settlements:

DECORATING ISSUES: The houses were cloned from the Small Prefab Shack which has two posts inside it near the back. I was unable to remove the collision effect left behind from the two posts, so there are two small 'blocked' spots where the posts used to be, in which you can't place furniture or route through. I made these unusable spots identifiable by putting two small loose planks on the floor which almost but not quite match the flooring, so that you can see them but they don't look too noticeable. So bear in mind that you need to work around these two small unusable spots.

There will also be some fiddling-around required to place objects on the walls and ceiling, with some items not able to be ideally positioned, but after a bit of experimentation you can achieve a reasonably good compromise.

As well as little home-away-from-homes for yourself, they make good sleeping quarters for settlers, with capacity to take either 6 single beds or 3 doubles each, and even a bit more if you use sleeping bags.

And they can also be used as individual shops, with a counter and assigned settler in each one.
