Hydrate and Eat Conveniently is monitored by Canary Save File Monitor by kinggath. Please log any issues that Canary reports for this mod under Bug Reports. Hopefully no one will have to.



Hydrate provides you with an Aid item called "Hydrate". Activating this item will cause you to consume a thirst quenching item based on your set preferences. Having this item as an Aid allows it to be favored so it can be quickly accessed while on the move. No need to pause the game to take a swig.

As of version 1.1 Hydrate will also supply you with an Aid item called "Eat". Now eating can be performed on the go as well!

Note: If you lose your "Hydrate" or "Eat" item another can be crafted at no cost at a cooking station under the "Utility" section. The recipes for these items will only show if you don't already have one in your inventory. This was done to reduce unnecessary clutter.

Why?

I love playing survival mode with a reasonable amount of difficulty, and I love the utility that Give Me That Bottle provides. What I don't love is having to stop what I'm doing and scroll through a cluttered menu to grab a drink every time I become dehydrated. I like the idea of just grabbing a container quickly while on the move and taking a sip. No need to make a scene of it.

Configurable Settings

Language

Determines the language the mod will use to display text.

Water Quality Preference 
Possible values: No Preference | Purified | Dirty | Never Dirty

If set to Dirty you will consume dirty water before consuming purified water. If set to Purified you will consume purified water before consuming dirty water. If set to Random you will randomly consume dirty or purified water from your inventory. If set to Never Dirty you won't consume dirty water (unless Substitute is enabled).

Note: Setting to "No Preference" will increase speed.

Min Hydration Level
Possible values: Hydrated | Parched | Thirsty | Mildly Dehydrated | Dehydrated | Severely Dehydrated

Upon activating "Hydrate" you will only consume a hydrating item if your thirst level is at least at this level. This will help you save water for when you really need it.

Note: This setting will be ignored if Hardcore mode is disabled.

Allow Substitute
Possible values: On | Off

If you're out of water, and you want to hydrate, you will grab the next best thing. The first thirst quenching item available in your inventory will be used.

Note: Leaving Substitute off will increase speed. You can use FO4Edit to quickly make an ALCH item thirst quenching if you feel that it should be. It just needs the HC_SustenanceType_QuenchesThirst keyword.

Food Value Preference
Possible values: No Preference | Cheapest | Most Expensive | Lightest | Heaviest

If set to Cheapest you will consume the cheapest food item from your inventory first. If set to Most Expensive you will consume the food item with the highest cap value from your inventory first.

As of version 1.4.0 weight can be a determining factor for grabbing a food item instead of cap value. This can be useful for users of mods like CHEF that use weight to determine how satiating a food item is.

Note: Setting to "No Preference" will increase speed. The caps value of a food item determine how satiating it is. The higher the value, the more satiating. As of version 1.2.3 items with the HC_IgnoreAsFood will be ignored.

Food Quality Preference
Possible values: No Preference | Clean | Irradiated

If set to "Clean" you will consume all food items that are not irradiated before consuming any that are irradiated. If set to "Irradiated" you will consume all irradiated food before consuming any that are clean. If set to "No Preference" your food selection will not be determined by radiation contamination.

Note: Setting to "No Preference" will increase speed. There is no way to detect via script whether or not a food item is irradiated, and consequently there is also no way to determine the level of contamination. All food items that are irradiated as defined by the base game, dlc, and UFO4P are contained in a form list.

Min Hunger Level
Possible Values: Fed | Peckish | Hungry | Famished | Ravenous | Starving

Upon activating "Eat" you will only consume a food item if your hunger level is at least at this level. This will help you save food for when you really need it.

Note: This setting will be ignored if Hardcore mode is disabled.

Allow Raw Meat
Possible values: On | Off

You won't consume raw meat unless this setting is enabled.

Allow Animal Food
Possible values: On | Off

You won't consume "Canned Dog Food" unless this setting is enabled. The cat food items from Urban Food Expanded will be recognized as "animal food".

Stay Awake
Possible values: On | Off

When attempting to hydrate, and your "Min Rest Level" is at or above your set level, you will consume a caffeinated item regardless of your hydration level.

Note: If Hardcore mode is disabled, and your are not using Advanced Needs 2 or 76, this setting will do nothing. Nuka Cola and Vim! are supported by default as caffeinated items. Turning Substitute on will enable detecting other caffeinated items.

Min Rest Level
Possible values: Tired | Overtired | Weary | Exhausted | Incapacitated

Caffeinated items will be preferred if your rest level is at least at this level and you are trying to "Stay Awake".

Note: This setting will be ignored if Hardcore mode is disabled. If Advanced Needs 2 or 76 is installed the value of AN_SleepEffect will determine if you need caffeine.

Eat World Items
Possible values: On | Off

Allows you to grab and eat food items directly in the world.

Note: If you are using Survival mode you will only eat the item if you are at your set Min Hunger Level.

Drink World Items
Possible values: On | Off

Allow you to grab and drink items directly in the world.

Note: If the item is hydrating and you are using Survival mode you will only drink it if you are at your set Min Hydration Level. If you are using Stay Awake and the item is caffeinating you will drink the item. If the item is not hydrating, e.g. alcohol, you will drink the item regardless of your hydration level.

Message Options
Possible values: Notification | Dialogue

Whether it's because you're out of food, not thirsty, or in need of some caffeine, a message is shown to indicate your circumstance. The default notifications that pop up in the corner of the screen are short of variety but available in all supported languages. For English users only, for now, there is an alternative to show these message in the form of inner dialogue with over 100 random messages.

Allow Dialogue Profanity
Possible values: On | Off

If enabled, dialogue with foul language can be used for the player thought messages mentioned above. A large minority of the over 100 random messages contain profanity, so it's recommended that this setting is enabled unless you don't want your character thinking like a sailor.

Bottle Filling

As of version 1.5.1 there are new settings that allow you to control a few aspects of bottle filling.

Bottles Per Fill
Possible values: 1-10

Determines the number of bottles to fill per fill or pump up to 10 at a time.

Water Pump Speed
Possible values: Slow (Default) | Medium | Fast

Control the interval between container fills when using a water pump.

Note: A faster speed (anything besides the default) may cause item removed and added notifications to not be shown.

Show Notifications
Possible values: None | All | Add Only | Remove Only

When filling bottles a Bottle Removed and Water Added notification are shown by default. Control which of these are shown with this setting.

Hotkeys

Hotkeys for "Hydrate" and "Eat" can be assigned from the MCM menu. These hotkeys will perform the same functions as the "Hydrate" and "Eat" items. Use which ever method fits your play-style best.

Compatibility

Give Me That Bottle by Zzyxzz

This mod has scripted support for the DLC version of Give Me That Bottle (not required). Half bottles will be consumed before full bottles.

Give Me That Bottle Patch

  • Consistent and better empty container weights, prices, and scrap yield.
  • Ensure all items that should be hydrating are hydrating.
  • Maintain all changes from UFO4P: item pick up and drop sounds, hyphen in "Nuka-Cola", exclamation point in "Vim!", etc.
  • Full (2/2) bottles of dirty water can now only craft half (1/2) bottles of purified water. Some of the water evaporates during the boiling process. Similarly, boxed and canned dirty water now require two to craft one box or can of purified water. Currently you will lose a box or can during the process. Think of it as a box or can being less durable than a glass bottle, at least for now.
  • Patches HC_WaterBottleScript with changes by this mod and changes by Give Me That Bottle. See the "Bottle Filling" section for more details.

Immersive Meat by me and Human Cooking by futoshisan

This mod has scripted detection for the raw meat items in both of these mods. This is done for compatibility with the "Allow Raw Meat" setting. Version 1.1.1 of Immersive Meat is required to detect the new rancid meat items.

Advanced Needs 2 by Flashy(JoeR)

This mod has scripted support for Advanced Needs 2:

  • The "Min Hydration Level", "Min Hunger Level", and "Min Rest Level" settings will be ignored if Hardcore mode is disabled.
  • You will always hydrate or eat when Hardcore mode is disabled.
  • The AN_SleepEffect setting from Advanced Needs 2 will be used to determine if you need caffeine or not.

Advanced Needs 76 by Flashy(JoeR)

This mod has scripted support for Advanced Needs 76:

  • H&ECs "Stay Awake" feature will work with your sleep level tracked by AN76.
  • What is considered hydrating by AN76 will be considered by H&EC.
  • What is considered not food by AN76 will be considered by H&EC.
  • H&EC's "Allow Raw Meat" feature will recognize what AN76 considers raw meat, including AN76's raw fish.

Urban Food Expanded by clintmich

Urban Food Expanded has a lot of food items, like canned fruit, that can quench your thirst if you're out of water. This mod also contains scripted support for much of the items from Urban Food Expanded:

  • All of the irradiated items will be recognized when using the "Food Quality Preference" setting.
  • All of the cat food found in UFE will be recognized when using the "Allow Animal Food" setting.
