Carry-Your-Stuff Robots

Version 3.3

Robot to follow along carrying lots of your extra gear and loot.

Description:

This mod provides a robot to carry your stuff while adventuring so you don't become overburdened.  Doesn't fight, won't run away, adjusts its follow distance automatically, and stays put when told to wait.  Also doesn't die or break stealth or get grumpy if ignored.  Perhaps mostly of interest when not using the Automatron DLC, or when preferring a straightforward robotic pack mule.  Lots of choices -- hopefully there's one that you'll like to have along while out-and-around clobbering bad guys.  Will cost you some resources for workshop construction, but all of it will be refunded if/when the robot is dismissed.  You can make a bunch, but only one will actually tag along -- the extras will simply wait hoping you'll change your mind and pick them instead (meanwhile keeping safe whatever loot you give them).

The robots are a potential "Teammate" instead of full "Companion", so do not add to Follower / Companion count.

Is this "lore friendly"?  Yeah, sure ... "lore" is what you make of it.

If you have problems, holler and I'll work to fix 'em.  Suggestions are welcomed, but don't really expect acceptance or forum responses.

How To Build And Use:

They can be found in the CARRY-YOUR-STUFF ROBOTS section of the WorkShop's main menu.  No questing required -- all of my other mods (or most of them anyway) require an initial quest before getting to the good stuff.  Not this time.  The robot will automatically follow.  Interact with it to select options such as Trade and Go Home (settlement where originally created).

How To Dismiss:

Interact with the robot.  If you see companion-orient choices, then pick Talk followed by Dismiss This Robot.  Otherwise you'll see a regular message box with options in which you select Dismiss This Robot.  The original workshop construction resources are refunded and items being carried are placed in your inventory.

Installation:

Install using a mod manager, or unpack the mod and copy the .ESP/.ESL and .BA2 files into the game's \DATA folder, then enable the mod.

Position this mod's .ESP/.ESL file to be as low as it will go in your "Load Order" sequence. This helps to ensure that the robots perform as best they can by overriding any conflicting mods. If you know with absolute certainty that there are no conflicting mods, then this mod can be positioned anywhere your installer normally allows.

Install ESP or ESL?

If you are reaching the maximum allowed number of .ESP installs, and want to install more mods, then install the .ESL versions of those new mods ...

Back-in-the-day, many players were reaching the maximum number of allowed .ESP installs, so Bethesda introduced a way to permit more via .ESL files.

The Light Master (.ESL) file is an optimized file format introduced in the Fallout 4 v1.10 update. Using Light Master files allows more plugins (mods and patch mods) to be installed than previously possible with .ESP files. For .ESP files there is a limit of 255, whereas a maximum of 4096 .ESL files can be loaded (but in practice is difficult to achieve due to other technical constraints).

Both file types can be used together, which means you can install just .ESP files if your install count remains below the .ESP maximum, or just .ESL files if your count remains below the .ESL maximum, or some of both such as using .ESP files initially and then adding .ESL files thereafter when the maximum for .ESP has been reached.

ESP/ESL Compatibility:

Saved games that currently use an .ESP mod are not compatible with an .ESL of that same mod.  Similarly, saved games that are currently using the .ESL for a mod are not compatible with an .ESP of that same mod.  That is a basic game restriction in terms of switching between .ESP and .ESL versions of a mod.  There is no "fix" or workaround -- it is inherent in the game's design.

So, to switch from .ESP to .ESL, or from .ESL to .ESP, you must:

1 ) remove all items from robots
2 ) uninstall the mod
3 ) load the current saved game
4 ) create a new saved game (while that mod is not installed)
5 ) install the other download of that mod
6 ) resume play with that newly created saved game
7 ) construct new robots

Requirements:

No special requirements.  DLCs are not needed.   Just install and use.

Known Issues:

If the robot ever gets stuck and can't move,  just use the Robot Recall Device (in the Weapons inventory section) to bring it to you.  Or walk away a goodly distance or fast travel to elsewhere and it will automatically teleport to your location.  Or interact with the robot and select Reset This Robot.

Known Conflicts:

• These robots might not work correctly with mods that provide special features for recruiting and controlling companions, so do not "recruit" or in any way control these robots with that kind of mod. If there are problems you will simply have to uninstall this mod and resume play without it.

• If this mod was installed using the Vortex mod manager, and you are not able to find the CARRY-YOUR-STUFF ROBOTS section of the WorkShop's main menu, it might be because it has not been properly activated/enabled. If you click PLUGINS within Vortex, you will then see which mods are truly activated/enabled or not (whereas the MODS section sometimes shows incorrect information). Within that PLUGINS interface you can activate/enable the mods that were not properly set when installed.

To Uninstall:

Uninstall with the mod manager that was used for the original install, or delete this mod's files.
