Welcome to Lightweight lighting!

This mod overhauls all of the base game + all DLC image spaces, lighting templates and weathers. All pictures I upload are of a game running no other weather or lighting mods, no reshade and no enb.

This mod is for you if:

  • You want darker but more consistent interiors,
  • You want a more atmospheric and darker nights,
  • You want more diverse weather,
  • You don't want to sacrifice performance,
  • You don't run/ cant run an ENB,
  • You don't want any unnecessary cell edits,
  • You like the Vanilla color Pallette.
  • You feel Bloom is too overbearing in most instances in vanilla.

Look elsewhere if you want:

  • Radically altered weather,
  • New lighting meshes/textures/effects,
  • Very dark interiors and nights,
  • To test your GPU more than the vanilla game.
  • New/removed lights and candles.

I have made this mod with performance and compatibility in mind so have only edited things pertaining to weather and lighting.
No cells have been edited so this is compatible out of the box with anything that is not a weather or lighting mod.

This mod is fully compatible with PRP out of the box without any need for patching!

Lightweight Lighting is designed to not need an ENB. I have purposely got as close as I can to what I think the game should look like with no cost in performance. If you decide to add an untested ENB/ Reshade you may have to tweak it to suit the new exposure levels.

On the subject of performance VishVadeva kindly did some testing against vanilla and the most popular overhaul NACX for a comparison.
See below for the results:

Places with a unique Image space have had many hours getting them looking just right (institute, third rail, nucleus etc.)
Whilst shared spaces have been a balancing act so you don't have crushed over black shadows but also not have overexposed lighting.

All Rain has been modified to actually be noticeable without an ENB, The effect uses the standard textures, only the size and velocity of the droplets are altered.

The glowing sea is now the only place you will see rad storms, The weather type that replaces it in the commonwealth is the cut "Polluted" weather type that has been remade and tweaked by me. This is the most dramatic difference you will see from the vanilla weather system and I wanted to do it this way to keep the glowing sea unique.

I have tested this mod fairly extensively by going to every cell in the game to check consistency, but there may be still the odd slightly too dark/light interior as I cannot test for everyone's monitor settings. Please give feedback in the comments, but try and be constructive so I can action any problems quickly.
I have spent way too many hours tweaking all aspects of this mod, and at the end of the day I made it for me but I hope others like it also!

This mod contains no scripts and is safe to install and remove mid save.

Recommended Mods:

Mods that pair nicely with Lightweight Lighting.
Louder Rainy Sound - Makes it actually sound like its raining without being obnoxious.
Spectrum Enb - Lightweight Lightings own ENB. If you can afford a slight hit to performance this adds in ENB specific features that cant be done in a Plugin.
Gloomy Glass - Specifically tuned for Lightweight Lighting.
Fallout 4 Particle Patch - Works very nicely with the nights in Lightweight Lighting.
