About this mod

Are you a "You and What Army?" user that ever saw child Minutemen patrols because of "Orphans of the Commonwealth?" Let's abolish that shit with this simple patch.

Requirements

<TL;DR>
If you're having problems with You and What Army? because you're seeing child Minutemen patrols, this simple patch will stop them from spawning, while keeping child settlers active.

<REQUIREMENT>

<COMPATIBILITY>
Technically, this patch should not ever conflict with anything. But in the surface, it may appear as if it is conflicting with some mods, as this patch prevents any settler type NPCs added by following mods from spawning as Minutemen patrols:

and the list goes on, for any mod that modifies the "LCharWorkshopNPC [LVLN:00113341]" form. Keep in mind however that these still function perfectly as intended as settlers (so long as they're properly treated with a merged patch, of course) - they just stop spawning as Minutemen patrols.

If you're not using any of these mods, you should be fine - but at the same time, there is also absolutely no point in using this patch in the first place.

<INSTALLATION/UNINSTALLATION/UPDATING>
Install when you want it, uninstall it when you don't want it anymore.
Keep in mind however, that if you install this patch mid-game, the changes won't take effect until the next respawn. If unsure, I recommend starting a new game.

<FAQ>
Q: Do the settlers/patrols/random cats on the street become stronger/weaker/ghouls by using this patch?
A: No. This patch does NOT alter the AI, stats or anything else of an NPC, just changes what kind of NPCs can spawn as Minutemen patrols. Namely, it is intended to prevent children from spawning as patrols. Other than that this patch doesn't do much.

Q: Who... uh... what is that thing on the header image???
A: The awesome Immersive Preston Garvey mod by shaneblob06.

Q: Who's asking all these stupid questions, really?
A:

OK, that's enough stalling! Time to get to the point...

<TECHNICAL EXPLANATION>

So what this "compatibility" patch actually does is, it creates a duplicate of vanilla Fallout4.esm's "LCharWorkshopNPC" leveled NPC list, and specifies that duplicated leveled list as the template for You and What Army?'s Minutemen patrols. This ensures that only vanilla setters will be chosen as templates for Minutemen patrols.

YAWA's Minutemen patrols, technically speaking, are actually a single NPC record called "zYAWA_LvlMinuteman".

"But Tobey, don't they all look different? It can't possibly be just one person!"

Shush you, I'm just about to get to my point here! So... how is it possible that they look different every time they spawn, even though they all come from the same single NPC record? The magic here is that you can set leveled NPCs as a template. For those uninitiated modders, a leveled list is, very simply put, a collection of random spawns. If the leveled list is used as a template for NPC, it will pick one random NPC on that list every time they spawn. This is precisely why vanilla settlers mostly look different (and have random genders too, of course).

The same logic applies for YAWA's Minutemen patrols as well. The thing, however, is that the template they use is the same leveled NPC list for settlers, called "LCharWorkshopNPC." Those patrols are actually settlers in Minutemen's outfit. But that's perfectly OK. The problem though is that this "LCharWorkshopNPC" is often edited by many mods that change how settlers spawn in game. Orphans of the Commonwealth - More Children is a prime example - this mod operates by modifying "LCharWorkshopNPC" and adding children NPCs into the list, which results in these children randomly spawning as settlers. What this means is that, because Minutemen patrols from YAWA also use the very same leveled list, there is now a chance that children can spawn as patrols. (This was especially a problem for me, because children appear nekkid as they're not compatible with Minutemen outfit. We are the Minutemen is responsible for adding new outfits, too...)

The solution is easy: this patch modifies the NPC record for the Minutemen patrols so they now point to the duplicated leveled list copied from vanilla Fallout4.esm, and now the mod should function perfectly as intended. No more child patrols! Now ain't that another win for the Minutemen ;)
(editor's note: the author died from random cardiac arrest as soon as he finished the last sentence. Please hold as respawning is in process..)

OK, hopefully that explains why this is not actually a conflict, and why I'd rather not call this patch a "compatibility" patch. Other than that single form, it's not overwriting anything else, and nothing can actually conflict per se. That said, however, there is just one small caveat: because the patrols no longer refer to the "LCharWorkshopNPC" leveled list (the actual one, that may be modified by other mods), any changes made to settlers by other mods is also no longer relevant, meaning that if you're a Better Settlers user, new NPCs added by this mod no longer appear as Minutemen patrols. IMO this possibly is a very minor impact as it simply means less variety to random NPC spawns (that respawn, might I add), but in case this matters so much to you, then you'd have to modify the duplicated leveled list (called "LCharWorkshopNPCLegacy") to your liking.

Another last thing I should note, is that this patch merely creates a duplicate of the leveled list, NOT the NPCs included on that list. In other words, this mod does not modify NPCs whatsoever, so their stats, AI, appearance etc. remains unchanged. This mod does NOT revert those changes to vanilla. It simply changes how the patrols spawn. Hopefully that should clear up any confusions for any reasonably cautious users.
