About this mod

Alters how Automatron is handled to have it behave more like base game content rather than announcing its presence to the world as soon as you hit level fifteen.

Changelogs
I'm sure that by this point you've noticed how the DLCs practically yell at you. How they intrude into your game, shove their way into your quest log, and generally make a nuisance of themselves without trying to fit in. I certainly have, which is why I've made this mod to adjust how Automatron and its content is presented to the player in order to better integrate it into the game world.

FEATURES
  • The Caravan Distress Call now only plays within a short distance from the site where they are being attacked.
  • "Mechanical Menace" begins when your pip-boy picks up the distress call.
  • New random encounters featuring just the rust devils without any robots. They begin at level five, and require at least seven days to have passed since the start of the game.
  • Automatron's quest has been broken into three phases:
    • "Pre Quest" begins at level fifteen, at least thirty days after the game has started. This enables the original random encounters, settlement attacks, and load screens at a dramatically reduced rate in order to ease players into the DLC.
    • "Mid Quest" starts when you begin the Automatron questline. The radio frequency and caravan attack will be available starting at level twenty, after at least forty-five days have passed since game start. Once the quest is in your quest log, the original random encounters, settlement attacks, and load screens are available at a much higher encounter rate compared to the pre-quest phase.
    • "Post Quest" begins when you've successfully completed the Automatron questline. This dramatically reduces the rate for the original random encounters and load screens, and disables the settlement attacks entirely.
  • Flagged as a light plugin (esl-flagged esp) for minimal impact on load order.

FAQ

How do I start using this mod?
Just install it! No configuration or special steps necessary.
Can I install this on an existing save?
Absolutely, yes. If you have already picked up the Automatron quest, then this mod will start at the "Mid Quest" phase mentioned above. If the quest is not yet in your log, then it will behave the same as it would from a new game.
    What about DLC Timing?
I made this mod because I wasn't satisfied with DLC Timing. That said, you can run them together so long as you load this after DLC Timing, at which point the DLC Timing configuration for Automatron will stop working and you will instead receive the features of this mod.
    Can this be configured?
I have no plans to make this configurable, but I also won't stop anyone else who decides to expose the internal settings this mod uses as a configuration menu. In fact, if anyone does that, just let me know and I'll link it in my compatibility post in the comments section.
Do you plan to do this to the other DLCs and CC content?
Yes, I plan to do this to the other DLCs as well as the CC content included for free with NG. While I posted this mod on its own as a proof of concept, I plan to release the rest as an AIO that also includes this mod's changes.
